• Recalled from Triple-A
The Diamondbacks recalled Jacques from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 in Houston reports.

Advice: Jacques was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox in late April and has spent most of the season at the Triple-A level, allowing 14 runs over 10.1 innings. The left-handed reliever holds a career 5.08 ERA and 22:10 K:BB across 28.1 innings during his time in the majors. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:01 pm
  • Slated for two-inning sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) is expected to pitch a two-inning simulated game Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: Kershaw tossed one inning against live batters Saturday and appears to have come out of that session well given that he will next progress to throwing two simulated frames. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that the future Hall of Fame hurler is "way ahead of schedule," but the skipper also implied that Kershaw is likely still "about six weeks" away from being ready to join the big club, per Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com. Kershaw himself has declined to establish a timeframe for his return from the 60-day injured list, though mid-July is looking like a reasonable expectation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:11 am

  • Back to bench Thursday
Davis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Davis had started at first base in both of the Athletics' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, going 2-for-7 with a pair of singles. Though the Mariners are bringing another righty (Bryan Woo) to the hill for Thursday's series finale, Davis will cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics could elect to rotate Davis, Soderstrom and Aledmys Diaz at first base until one of the three begins performing well enough to take control of an everyday role. • Manny Machado (hip) considered day-to-day
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters after Wednesday’s loss to the Angels that Manny Machado (hip) is considered day-to-day.

Advice: The superstar third baseman suffered a mild right hip flexor strain while hustling down the first base line to beat out a double play in the fourth inning. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require any further examination or imaging and there’s optimism that he could return to the Padres’ lineup as early as Thursday. • Considered day-to-day
Manager Mike Shildt said that Machado is day-to-day with a mild right hip flexor strain after exiting in the fourth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-2 prior to leaving the game.

Advice: Machado suffered the injury while hustling to first base in an effort to beat out a potential double play in the fourth inning. Though he was able to reach base on a fielder's choice, Machado was forced from the game, with Donovan Solano coming off the bench to pinch run for him. Fortunately, Machado appears to have avoided any significant damage, but it's possible the Padres hold him out of Thursday's series opener against Arizona to aid his recovery. The 31-year-old has gone 8-for-22 with four RBI and two stolen bases across his last seven games. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:28 pm

  • Injures leg Wednesday
Machado was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels due to an apparent leg injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Machado suffered the injury while running to first base on an attempt to beat out a double play during the fourth inning. The slugging third baseman likely tweaked something in his lower body while running, but the Padres should clarify the nature of Machado's injury relatively soon. • Manny Machado exits with apparent leg injury
Manny Machado was lifted from Wednesday’s contest against the Angels in the fourth inning due to an apparent leg injury.

Advice: Machado suffered the injury while hustling down the first base line to beat out a double play ball in the fourth inning. He tried to talk his way into staying in the game, but wound up getting replaced by pinch-runner Donovan Solano. It doesn’t sound like it’s something that should sideline him for long, but we’ll know more after he undergoes further evaluation. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:33 pm

  • Headed for second opinion
Gasser is traveling to Los Angeles to receive a second opinion on his injured left elbow from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Gasser was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left flexor strain, but the pitcher and the Brewers are still trying to get a better handle on his diagnosis and treatment options. More information on a potential timetable for Gasser could be available later this week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:55 am

  • DL Hall getting additional opinion on knee
DL Hall is going to California for a second opinion on his ailing knee.

Advice: Hall will be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. That’s typically a reason for pessimism, but the Brewers seem encouraged that Hall’s knee is getting better. He’s been sidelined since late April with what was described as a sprain. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:45 am
