    • Josh Smith homers, steals base in victory
Josh Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBI, a stolen base, and a walk in the Rangers’ 9-1 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Advice: Smith filled the stat sheet on Wednesday with an excellent day at the plate. He drew a walk in the first inning and stole second. Smith then led off the third with a solo homer off Joey Wentz. He doubled in the fifth and later drove in a run with a base hit in the sixth. The 26-year-old infielder is having a solid season at the plate, hitting .290/.377/.440 with four homers, 30 runs scored, 24 RBI, and four steals across 220 plate appearances. • Injures leg Wednesday
Machado was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels due to an apparent leg injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Machado suffered the injury while running to first base on an attempt to beat out a double play during the fourth inning. The slugging third baseman likely tweaked something in his lower body while running, but the Padres should clarify the nature of Machado's injury relatively soon. • Manny Machado exits with apparent leg injury
Manny Machado was lifted from Wednesday’s contest against the Angels in the fourth inning due to an apparent leg injury.

Advice: Machado suffered the injury while hustling down the first base line to beat out a double play ball in the fourth inning. He tried to talk his way into staying in the game, but wound up getting replaced by pinch-runner Donovan Solano. It doesn’t sound like it’s something that should sideline him for long, but we’ll know more after he undergoes further evaluation. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:33 pm

    • Cleared to start Saturday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday that Suarez (thumb) has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Mets in London, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "I think so," Thomson said ,when asked if Suarez would make his next scheduled start. "It looks like it. I believe we can line him up."

Advice: Suarez didn't throw a bullpen session Wednesday like Thomson intimated would be the case Tuesday, but the southpaw played catch for the second day in a row and appears to be feeling fine. He'll throw a light bullpen session Friday, but the Phillies are seemingly already banking on Suarez being available without restriction for the first of two games in London, with Taijuan Walker set to take the hill for the Sunday contest. Suarez was removed from his most recent start this past Saturday against the Cardinals after taking a comebacker to his left thumb. He avoided any structural damage to the thumb and merely dealt with some light swelling, which has since subsided. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:47 pm
    • William Contreras posts two hits, doubles in loss
William Contreras went 2-for-3 with a double on Wednesday in the Brewers’ shutout loss at the hands of the Phillies.

Advice: There weren’t a ton of bright spots here for Milwaukee as Contreras supplied two of their three total hits, and lone extra-base hit of the contest, as Phillies starter Aaron Nola and a pair of relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:52 pm
    • Nolan Arenado goes deep, Cardinals edge Astros
Nolan Arenado slugged a solo homer on Wednesday, lifting the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory over the Astros.

Advice: Arenado supplied a key insurance run for the Cardinals’ bullpen with a sixth-inning solo shot off Astros starter Ronel Blanco. It was his sixth round-tripper of the season and third time he’s gone deep in his last seven contests since May 28. The 33-year-old remains stuck in one of the most challenging extended power outages of his career, but he’s shown a bit of a spark lately, and might finally be turning things around. We’ll see. • Scratched due to knee issue
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Marte was scratched from the lineup prior to Wednesday's game in Washington due to a right knee issue, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Though he played all nine innings of Tuesday's 6-3 win while going 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two runs and two RBI, Marte informed the Mets on Wednesday that his knee was bothering him at points during the previous night's game. The Mets elected to scratch Marte from the lineup for the series finale as a matter of precaution, but Mendoza said that he has a low level of concern for the outfielder's injury. Marte will still be available off the bench Wednesday, and with off days Thursday and Friday, the expectation is that he'll be back in the lineup Saturday for the start of the Mets' two-game series in London versus the Phillies. • Starling Marte has sore knee, available off bench
The Mets said Starling Marte was scratched because of a right knee issue but that he is available off the bench Wednesday.

Advice: Marte felt something in Tuesday’s game, apparently. Tyrone Taylor is playing right field today. Rotoworld Wednesday, 11:22 am
