    • David Bednar (oblique) resumes playing catch
David Bednar (oblique) has resumed playing catch.

Advice: Bednar is expected to progress to throwing off a bullpen mound in the coming days. He landed on the injured list back in late June with a left oblique strain and will most likely be on the shelf until after the Midsummer Classic in a few weeks. It’ll continue to be Aroldis Chapman handling the closing duties in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 5:23 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) set for Wednesday bullpen
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Advice: Kershaw was shut down from throwing back in late June after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder, so it’s a positive sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw is targeting a midseason return to Los Angeles’s starting rotation and appears on track to make it back at some point in August. Rotoworld Today, 5:16 pm
    • Scratched from start
Baz was scratched from his start with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Baz was removed from his outing in order to be available as a depth option for the Rays in case the team needs to play a doubleheader Wednesday or Thursday against the Royals as inclement is expected in Kansas City. Fantasy managers can rest easy as the right-hander is perfectly healthy, boasting a 4.12 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 over 39.1 innings in 10 starts with Durham this season. Rotowire.com Today, 4:27 pm

    • Rays scratch Shane Baz in case of Wednesday DH
Shane Baz was scratched from Tuesday’s start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz was scratched to keep him available in case the Rays need to call up a starter for a potential Wednesday doubleheader against the Royals. With rain in the forecast in Kansas City on Tuesday night, Tampa Bay didn’t want to take any chances and not have Baz available, if needed. There’s still a bunch of hurdles to clear, but it’s possible the 25-year-old top pitching prospect could make his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery later this week. Rotoworld Today, 4:21 pm

    • Returns to throwing
Kershaw (shoulder) has started throwing again Tuesday after experiencing shoulder soreness last week, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: After being shut down for one week due to feeling soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder, Kershaw said he was relieved an MRI didn't reveal any new damage. The southpaw added that he received some shots to help alleviate discomfort and that he is hopeful the pause in his rehab will not push his timeline back too much. Rotowire.com Today, 3:33 pm
    • M’s drop Julio Rodríguez to seventh in lineup
Julio Rodríguez is batting seventh on Tuesday against the Orioles.

Advice: It’s the lowest Rodriguez has batted in the majors in quite some time as his frosty start to the 2024 campaign continues. The 23-year-old generational talent has really struggled to get going this season at the plate, batting .247/.297/.327 with seven homers and 17 steals across 360 plate appearances. He’s been ice-cold of late, hitting .069 (2-for-29) over his last seven games. It’s possible taking some pressure off him to produce in the heart of Seattle’s lineup will help him get back on track. We’ll see. Rotoworld Today, 2:26 pm

    • Nearing bullpen session
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Tuesday that Bednar (oblique) has progressed to throwing from 120 feet and should soon resume mound work, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The right-hander was briefly shut down from throwing after he landed on the injured list June 23 with an oblique strain. Bednar will be eligible to be reinstated to the active roster soon, but he could spend more than the 15-day minimum on the shelf since he's yet to get back on the mound. However, he doesn't appear to be in for a lengthy absence and may be able to rejoin the Pirates before the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 2:14 pm

    • Could begin running soon
Harris (hamstring) could begin running soon, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports.

Advice: Harris is two-and-a-half weeks removed from suffering a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. There is no timetable yet for his return to Atlanta's active roster, but at this point it seems likely that he'll be held out until after the All-Star break. Jarred Kelenic has shifted over to center field to cover for Harris. Rotowire.com Today, 1:55 pm

    • Nolan Jones collects two hits in Rockies’ win
Nolan Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk versus the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: The second hit also would have been at least a double, but it hit first base umpire Brian O’Nora on its way down the first base line, resulting in a single. Jones has had issues with strikeouts since coming off the IL last month, but he’s hitting the ball harder than he did in April and drawing a bunch of walks (12 in 15 games). He should prove pretty useful in mixed leagues the rest of the way. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:19 pm
