    • Drops contest against Dodgers
Cortes (3-5) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Cortes gave up a pair of solo homers among the seven total hits Los Angeles tallied against him, and the four runs he yielded tied a season-high mark. The lefty hurler did at least manage to keep New York within striking range -- though the game ended in a blowout, most of the Dodgers' damage came after Cortes' departure. Cortes is hanging onto a respectable 3.68 ERA on the season, though his current 8.7 K/9 is on pace for his lowest mark since a four-appearance cup of coffee as a rookie in 2018. • Nestor Cortes shaky again in loss to Dodgers
Nestor Cortes gave up four runs while working 5 1/3 innings in a loss Saturday to the Dodgers.

Advice: Cortes gave up two homers, one to Teoscar Hernandez and another to Enrique Hernandez (note: no relation). The left-hander continues to pitch at an inconsistent level, but his 3.68 ERA and 1.12 WHIP help tell the story that there’s been more better than bitter. He’s scheduled to face the Royals on Thursday. Rotoworld Saturday, 10:04 pm
    • Takes loss versus Brewers
Mize (1-4) took the loss to the Brewers on Saturday, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Mize pitched into the sixth inning for just the sixth time this season. He was pulled with his team up 4-3, but the bullpen allowed both inherited runners to come across to score, sticking him with the loss. It was a tough break for Mize, as two of the five runs allowed were unearned. The right-hander is still looking for his second win of the campaign -- he's now gone eight straight starts without a win and has seen his ERA climb from 3.08 to 4.73 in the process. • Casey Mize suffers fourth defeat on Saturday
Casey Mize suffered his fourth defeat of the season on Saturday, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Brewers.

Advice: The 27-year-old hurler also issued a pair of walks on the day while recording only one strikeout. The Brewers scratched out a run against him in the opening inning then tacked on two more in the third on a sacrifice fly and an RBI ground out. He then exited with two men on and one out in the fifth inning — and both inherited runners ultimately came around to score. Mize impossibly got just one swing and miss on 97 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 26 percent. Now 1-4 on the season, he’ll tote a 4.73 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and a 39/18 K/BB ratio (59 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Astros in Houston. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:24 pm

    • Shouldn't miss next start
Flaherty (back) said he expects to make his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against Washington, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Advice: Flaherty was pulled after 60 pitches in his last start due to back tightness, but it seems as though he's avoided any significant injury and is all but confirmed to face the Nationals. Considering back injuries can be touch and go, there remains a small risk that the issue will flare up again. Flaherty will look to extend his scoreless innings streak Tuesday, which stands at 11.2 innings. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:52 pm
    • Jack Flaherty (back) confident he’ll make next start
Jack Flaherty (back) told reporters on Wednesday that he’s confident he’ll make his next scheduled start on Tuesday against the Nationals.

Advice: While most players express optimism in all injury situations, it’s at least encouraging that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list as of yet. The 28-year-old hurler was pulled from Tuesday’s outing against the Rangers after just 60 pitches due to tightness in his back. Flaherty did say that he still felt some stiffness in his back on Wednesday, but that it’s improved from where he was on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should have a contingency option in place in the event that Flaherty can’t give it a go next week. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:35 pm
    • Cruises to eighth win
Gil (8-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings in a 5-1 victory over the Twins. He struck out six.

Advice: The 26-year-old didn't miss a beat after being named the American League Rookie and Pitcher of the Month for May. Gil extended his quality-start streak to seven with the performance, and he's won all seven of those outings with an eye-popping 0.60 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 50:15 K:BB through 44.2 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to be a marquee matchup against the Dodgers in Yankee Stadium this weekend. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:04 am

    • Effective in return
Miller (elbow) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Miller was reinstated from the injured list before the game after being sidelined since May 13 due to right ulnar nerve inflammation, and the Tigers wasted no time getting him back into the thick of things. The righty didn't seem to skip a beat, as he retired his four batters on just 17 pitches to secure his fourth hold of the season. Miller figures to remain a high-leverage reliever for Detroit as long as he's healthy, giving him a chance to rack up more holds and possibly an occasional save. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:54 pm
    • Exits early Tuesday
Flaherty was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rangers due to back tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: Flaherty had cruised through five shutout innings and thrown just 60 pitches before being suddenly pulled from the game. Manager A.J. Hinch said after the contest that the team still does not know the severity of the right-hander's injury, but the Tigers will presumably continue to run tests on his back and have an update on his status within the next couple of days.
