• Riding bench again Thursday
Torres is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone had intimated after not starting Torres on Wednesday that the second baseman might get an additional day off to regroup, and the skipper has done just that. Torres is in a 2-for-29 slump at the plate and has also had some defensive lapses. Jahmai Jones is getting a rare start at the keystone Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:05 pm
  • Sitting Thursday versus lefty
Horwitz isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: With left-hander Carlos Rodon on the mound for New York, the lefty-hitting Horwitz will begin Thursday's contest on the bench. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will shift to second base as a result, allowing Ernie Clement to start at third while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:58 pm
  • Nolan Gorman takes a seat on Thursday
Nolan Gorman is not in the Cardinals’ starting lineup on Thursday.

Advice: With the Cardinals facing a lefty, Gorman will head to the bench and the team will turn to Jose Fermin at second base. Gorman has been a good source of power this season with 16 home runs, but he’s also hitting .191 on the season with a 36 percent strikeout rate and has been worse in June with a .148 average and 38 percent strikeout rate in 24 games. However, he also has four steals in June, which has saved his fantasy value a bit, but he’s hard to roster in batting average leagues if you have ample power because of the drain he puts on your team with his average. • Not starting against southpaw
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: St. Louis will match up against left-handed starter Andrew Abbott on Thursday, so the lefty-hitting Carpenter will step out of the lineup. Willson Contreras will take over as the DH while Pedro Pages starts at catcher and bats ninth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:34 pm
  • Resting versus LHP
Gorman isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Gorman and his .596 OPS against southpaws will take a seat Thursday as the Reds prepare to send lefty Andrew Abbott to the mound. Jose Fermin will take over at second base and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:30 pm

  • Makes season debut
Soto served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-3 in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Soto made his first appearance for the Reds since being recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. With Noelvi Marte (suspension) expected to be reinstated Thursday, Soto could return to Louisville. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:15 am

  • Runs hit streak to eight games
India went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to Pittsburgh.

Advice: No one in baseball is hotter than India, who leads MLB with a .571 average and is second in OPS (1.654) over the last seven days. He's hit safely in eight straight contests, going 15-for-29 with four walks, two steals, seven doubles, one home run, three RBI and eight additional runs scored. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:08 am
  • Quiet in return
Arenado went 1-for-8 over both games of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

Advice: Arenado played all 18 innings Wednesday at third base in his return from a left forearm injury. He didn't make much of an impact at the plate, but it's encouraging to see the 33-year-old play both halves of the twin bill. He's down to a .254/.310/.364 slash line with six home runs, 32 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base over 73 contests this year. The Cardinals have occasionally used Brandon Crawford and Brendan Donovan at the hot corner, and they could continue to be an option there if Arenado is out of the lineup or limited to designated hitter at any point in the future, as his forearm issue is believed to be a lingering one. • Sitting during nightcap
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta.

Advice: Carpenter went 1-for-1 with a single and a sacrifice fly during a loss in Game 1, and the Cardinals will give him a breather to conclude Wednesday's activities. Willson Contreras will instead serve as St. Louis' DH while Pedro Pages starts behind the plate. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:20 pm
