• Jackson Merrill goes hitless Wednesday in victory
Jackson Merrill went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday in the Padres’ win over the Reds.

Advice: Don’t look now, but Merrill has gone 0-for-19 in six contests over the last week. The 21-year-old top prospect looked extremely impressive at the outset of the season in his Padres debut, but has hit a frosty stretch at the dish of late, which also coincides with a nagging groin issue that he’s been playing through. It’s entirely possible he’s not close to 100 percent at the moment, which is impacting his on-field results. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm

  • Not in starting lineup
Newman is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's outing versus the Dodgers.

Advice: The 30-year-old infielder will get a break with Blaze Alexander starting at shortstop Wednesday as the Diamondbacks finish out their series against Los Angeles. Newman has started at shortstop in six of Arizona's last 10 games and is slashing .157/.189/.314 on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 3:15 pm

  • Addison Barger goes 0-for-3 against Royals
Addison Barger went 0-for-3 on Wednesday, leaving him 1-for-18 to start his career.

Advice: Two strikeouts and a weak grounder today. Barger has been on base just once in five games, collecting a lone single, and he’s struck out six times. He’ll need to pick it up if he’s going to survive Kevin Kiermaier’s eventual return. Rotoworld Today, 2:49 pm

  • Willi Castro goes 3-for-5, steals base
Willi Castro went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and a stolen base Wednesday as the Twins took down the White Sox 10-5.

Advice: Castro has really warmed up, going 16-for-35 with eight RBI in his last eight games. That’s raised his OPS from .538 to 789. He was in line to lose playing time due to Carlos Correa’s return, but the hot streak has changed that, and now that Byron Buxton is down, there’s little doubt that Castro will stay in the lineup for a while. He’s an option for teams in need of steals. Rotoworld Today, 2:27 pm

  • Held out with back issue
Manager Aaron Boone said Berti (groin) won't play in a scheduled rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Wednesday after his back locked up on him, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: The hope is that it's only a one-day absence for Berti, but that wouldn't seem to be a given. He's played two games with Somerset already as he comes back from a groin strain. Berti had potentially been looking at a return from the 10-day injured list this weekend, but that might be delayed now. Rotowire.com Today, 1:51 pm

  • Willy Adames hits two homers versus former club
Willy Adames hit a pair of homers to drive in four runs against his former team in a win over the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: Adames has three homers and eight RBI the last two days. It looked like he might bat lower in the order than usual this year, and he did hit fifth against the Mets on Opening Day. However, he’s hit fourth or higher every game since, and he’s now up to 21 RBI in 30 games for the season. Rotoworld Today, 1:49 pm

  • Jon Berti (back) won’t play rehab game Wednesday
Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Jon Berti (groin) won’t play in his scheduled minor league rehab game on Wednesday due to tightness in his back.

Advice: Boone termed it a precautionary measure and said that they were hopeful Berti would be able to return to the lineup on Thursday. He’s probably going to need a couple more games before he’s ready to rejoin the Yankees, but if all goes well we could see him in Pinstripes at some point next week. Rotoworld Today, 1:46 pm

  • Aiming to be available Friday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that he's hopeful that Grissom (hamstring/illness) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list for Friday's game in Minnesota, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Grissom had been slated for his season and Red Sox debut Tuesday after overcoming a hamstring injury, but he's been delayed due to an illness. Once activated, Grissom is likely to serve as the Red Sox's everyday second baseman. Rotowire.com Today, 1:32 pm

  • Vaughn Grissom set to join Red Sox on Friday
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Wednesday that Vaughn Grissom is expected to be activated from the injured list on Friday.

Advice: The 23-year-old infielder should make his highly-anticipated Red Sox’ debut on Friday evening against the Twins in Minnesota. Grissom has played in nine games during his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester, hitting .333/.444/.400 with two RBI, two stolen bases and a 9/5 K/BB ratio over 36 plate appearances.
