    • MRI coming Monday
Ruiz, who was removed from Saturday's win over the Marlins with a wrist injury and was out of the lineup Sunday, is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, per A's beat reporter Jessica Kleinschmidt.

Advice: Manager Mark Kotsay hadn't ruled out Ruiz making an in-game appearance Sunday, but that situation never arose in an ugly 12-3 loss for the Athletics. Ruiz is now headed for further evaluation Monday, after which the severity of injury he suffered making a diving catch in Saturday's game will become clearer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:09 pm

    • Tosses scoreless frame
Jansen pitched one scoreless inning, allowing one hit in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Jansen was locked into appearing in Sunday's contest no matter what, and he worked around an error by his defense and a single for a scoreless ninth inning. The 36-year-old is firmly locked into being Boston's closer in 2024, posting a 1.69 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 10.2 innings in 11 appearances while going 5-for-6 on save opportunities so far. • Nico Hoerner leads Cubs past Brewers on Sunday
Nico Hoerner doubled and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday, propelling the Cubs to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Brewers.

Advice: Hoerner opened the scoring in the ballgame with a two-run double off of Freddy Peralta in the home half of the fifth inning. He then advanced to third on a ground ball and dashed home on a wild pitch with the Cubs’ third run of the day. The speedy 26-year-old infielder finished the afternoon 1-for-5 and is now hitting .282/.358/.397 with one home run, 10 RBI and four swipes through his first 34 games of the 2024 season. • Edouard Julien fans three times in defeat
Edouard Julien struck out all three times he was up before being replaced Sunday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Julien had a great stretch towards the end of last month to push his OPS up to .890, but he’s back down to .795 now after going 1-for-18 with 11 strikeouts in his last seven games. He does have six walks during that span, but he hasn’t scored a single run. It’s going to be tough to justify using him in shallow leagues if he’s a platoon player not hitting for average or stealing many bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:24 pm

    • Will pitch Sunday
Jansen, who hasn't pitched the last six days, will be used in Sunday's game against the Twins, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox have a day off Monday and will prevent Jansen from the absence extending any further, so the closer is expected to pitch one way or another. He's pitched just once over the last nine days. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:37 am
    • Takes first loss of season
Valdez (1-1) took the loss against Seattle on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 5.1 innings.

Advice: Valdez turned in his worst start of the campaign, as the five runs and nine hits he allowed were both season-worst marks while he recorded a season-low three punchouts. The left-hander also gave up his first two homers of the year, with Cal Raleigh's two-run shot in the sixth inning resulting in the hurler getting the hook. Since being activated from the injured list April 27 following a near month-long absence due to an elbow injury, Valdez has surrendered seven runs on 14 hits across 10.1 frames over two starts. • Steals base in loss
Neto went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base Saturday in a loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Neto plated the only Angels run of the contest with a fifth-inning single. The shortstop followed with a stolen base, but he was left stranded in scoring position. Neto was batting .167 as recently as April 21, but he's turned a corner since, hitting .350 with two homers and six RBI over his past 11 contests. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:53 pm

    • Framber Valdez hit hard in loss to Mariners
Framber Valdez coughed up five runs over 5 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Valdez didn’t quite have as much success in his second outing back from the injured list as the division-rival Mariners tagged him for a pair of homers, which was more than enough run support for Logan Gilbert, who tossed eight shutout innings on the other side. The 30-year-old southpaw will carry a serviceable 3.97 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 19/7 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings (four starts) into a road outing on Friday against the Tigers. • Removed with wrist injury Saturday
Ruiz suffered a wrist injury on a diving catch in the sixth inning of Saturday's win over the Marlins and was removed from the game, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Ruiz appeared to hurt his glove hand and remained down for a brief time following the catch, cradling his left wrist as he exited the field with team trainers. Seth Brown replaced him in left field, and Ruiz could well be headed for a day off in Sunday's series finale, at minimum. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:31 pm
