Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that Scherzer (back) will remain shut down from throwing for the next few days due to a right thumb and forearm issue, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer has been on the 15-day injured list all season while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, but it's his pitching arm that has presented complications for him coming out of his first rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock back on April 24. Young said that Scherzer won't resume ramping up again until the tightness and discomfort in his arm completely subsides, so the veteran right-hander still looks to be multiple weeks away from being ready to return from the IL. Yamamoto improved to 4-1 in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five over eight innings.

Advice: Yamamoto gave up a first-pitch home run to Jazz Chisholm to open up the game and his only other blemish on the night came from another solo home run by Bryan De La Cruz in the sixth. He was incredibly efficient, needing 97 pitches to navigate through eight innings. It was his first time pitching past six innings as a major leaguer and he's now won four straight decisions since suffering a loss in his debut on March 21 versus the Padres in the Seoul Series. Removing the shaky outing in Korea, Yamamoto owns a 1.76 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 45:7 K:BB in 41 innings this season. He'll look to keep rolling next week in a projected road matchup against the Giants. Justin Verlander allowed seven runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday.

Advice: Verlander also walked three, struck out just two, and gave up three home runs on the day. The 41-year-old simply didn’t have it on Tuesday, allowing a three-run homer to light-hitting Alex Verdugo in the first inning. He allowed a run in four of his five innings on the day and posted just an 11 percent whiff rate and 20 percent CSW. His ERA is now 4.43 on the season and he has 16 strikeouts and 10 walks in 22 1/3 innings on the season. Yu Darvish tossed five shutout innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Advice: Darvish has reeled off 10 consecutive scoreless frames in a pair of starts since returning from a two-week absence due to neck tightness. The 37-year-old veteran righty finished with five strikeouts, and only issued one walk, scattering three hits over five frames in his return to Wrigley Field. He generated 15 swinging strikes and finished with a respectable 28 percent CSW, despite throwing 62 of 83 pitches for strikes. Manager Bruce Bochy stated Monday that Eovaldi (groin) isn't dealing with a sports hernia and should be cleared to return after serving the 15-day minimum on the injured list, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The Rangers initially believed that Eovaldi wouldn't be forced to miss more than the required 15 days, and this report was confirmed after the right-hander visited a specialist Monday.
