    • Checks out of starting nine
Urias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Though he's seen his playing time in the infield pick up of late after second baseman Jackson Holliday was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk last Friday, Urias will head to the bench Thursday after starting at third base in three of the previous four games. Jordan Westburg will occupy the hot corner Thursday, opening up a spot at the keystone for Jorge Mateo. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

    • Surgery not ruled out
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Yoshida might require surgery on his injured left thumb, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Yoshida was placed on the injured list Wednesday with what has been termed a left thumb strain. Cora noted Thursday that the medical staff is still gathering information regarding the injury before a decision is made on next steps for Yoshida, but it appears surgery is one of the possibilities. More clarity on the designated hitter's status should be available by the weekend. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Walker Buehler (elbow) to make debut Monday
Walker Buehler (elbow) is scheduled to make his season debut on Monday, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Advice: It’s been about 20 months since Buehler has pitched in a major league game, but that will come to an end in just a few days. The 29-year-old hurler has been putting together multiple rehab stints to get ramped up for his return to the Dodgers. In his last outing, he allowed just one run across five innings and threw 75 pitches. This will be a big season for Buehler as he and the team have entertained the possibility of a contract extension in the past, but now it will be an important factor for the team as he enters free agency after 2024. • Gets rest day against lefty
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will head to the bench for the series finale while the Yankees bring southpaw Carlos Rodon to the bump. Adley Rutschman will receive a day off behind the plate and will fill in for O'Hearn as the Orioles' designated hitter. Rotowire.com 9 minutes ago

    • Giants recall Randy Rodríguez from Triple-A
Giants recalled RHP Randy Rodríguez from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 24-year-old will come up to the majors and hopefully be an arm the Giants can rely on in the bullpen. The 24-year-old has impressed early on in Triple-A as he’s posted a 1.69 ERA, 1.03 WHIP with a 10/4 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings of work. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
    • Giants option Daulton Jefferies to Triple-A
Giants optioned RHP Daulton Jefferies to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: Jefferies has appeared in two games (one start) for the Giants this season and has allowed nine earned runs in his 4 2/3 innings of work. Not good. The 28-year-old missed all of last season after he underwent Tommy John surgery and will hopefully get right down at Triple-A. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
    • Athletics option Ryan Noda to Triple-A
Athletics optioned 1B Ryan Noda to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder will head back to the minors to continue his development as he got off to a brutal start this season. Noda has just 11 hits in his 100 plate appearances with the Athletics this season. He showed some promise last season with a .770 OPS but that’s dipped over 300 points to .440 in 2024. • Resumes running, hitting
Hays (calf) said that he's been able to engage in a running program the past few days and plans to hit Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Manager Brandon Hyde implied Monday that Hays had made limited progress in his recovery from a left calf strain, but the outfielder struck a much more optimistic tone when he talked about where he stood in his rehab program Thursday. Hays admitted he's unsure whether he'll need a rehab assignment prior to being activated from the 10-day injured list, as the Orioles could just allow him to get some competitive at-bats in during simulated games. Regardless, Hays likely won't be in store for an everyday role whenever he's activated, as rookie Colton Cowser appears to have established himself as Baltimore's top option in left field. • On track for season debut Friday
Grissom (hamstring/illness) is feeling much better and will travel with the Red Sox to Minnesota for their weekend series against the Twins, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Grissom has had his season debut delayed after he came down with an illness earlier this week. However, it sounds like he's feeling back or close to 100 percent and is in line to make his Red Sox and season debut Friday. Grissom -- who was acquired from Atlanta over the offseason in the Chris Sale trade -- is set to take over as Boston's primary second baseman. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
