    • Snaps slump with homer
Burleson went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Phillies.

Advice: Burleson entered Sunday 0-for-17 over his last four games. He ended the drought -- his longest of the season -- with a third-inning blast to put the Cardinals ahead 4-2. Burleson has been forced into a larger role with the Cardinals lacking several starters, including Lars Nootbaar (oblique), who is expected to be out for nearly all of June. Burleson is slashing .273/.302/.418 with six homers, 20 RBI, 15 runs scored and two stolen bases over 50 contests and should have a chance to continue playing on a near-everyday basis for the foreseeable future. • Alec Burleson slugs two-run home run in loss
Alec Burleson slugged a two-run homer on Sunday night as the Cardinals rallied late to beat the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Advice: Burleson walloped a 405-foot (105.0 mph EV) two-run shot off of Taijuan Walker in the third inning that gave the Cardinals a 4-2 advantage. That would be his only hit in five at-bats on the evening. For the season, the 25-year-old slugger is slashing .273/.302/.418 to go with six long balls and 20 RBI. • Spencer Steer goes 0-for-4 against Cardinals
Spencer Steer went 0-for-4 in Wednesday’s loss to the Cardinals, dropping his average to .221.

Advice: Steer is hitting .190/.304/.354 this month. His exit velocity numbers and xBA/xSLG stats are all pretty much the same as last year, so it seems likely that he’ll rebound, hopefully in short order. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:40 pm

    • Alec Burleson collects two hits in win on Sunday
Alec Burleson went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored as the Cardinals triumphed over the Cubs on Sunday evening.

Advice: Burleson smacked a one-out single off of Javier Assad in the third inning, then rode home on Paul Goldschmidt’s first two-run homer of the night. With his two-hit effort, the 25-year-old outfielder is now hitting a robust .309/.338/.460 with five long balls, 17 RBI and a pair of stolen bases on the season. Rotoworld May 26, 9:20 pm

    • Homers again Saturday
Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: He touched up Walker Buehler in the first inning to give the Reds an early lead. As Mark Sheldon of MLB.com notes, Steer has now gone deep in back-to-back games after entering the series without a homer since May 1 (17 games). His struggles from the middle of the order this month have led the Reds to the cellar in the NL Central, though it's certainly not all his fault. Steer sits with a .227/.341/.403 line with six homers, 35 RBI, 25 runs scored and 11 steals through 50 games this season. Rotowire.com May 26, 1:50 am

    • Spencer Steer homers again as Reds top Dodgers
Spencer Steer homered for the second consecutive game on Saturday, helping to power the Reds to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Dodgers.

Advice: Steer got the scoring started in the opening inning on Saturday, crushing a 362-foot (94.9 mph EV) solo shot off of Walker Buehler. That would wind up being his only hit in four at-bats on the night. On the season, the versatile 26-year-old is slashing .227/.341/.403 with six long balls and 35 RBI. Rotoworld May 25, 6:57 pm

    • Knocks fifth home run
Steer went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Steer got the Reds' offense started with a three-run blast in the first inning. He snapped a 17-game homerless drought, during which he'd posted an unsightly .527 OPS. Despite a terrific start to 2024 (1.264 OPS through 11 games), Steer now owns a .227/.343/.390 slash line with 17 extra-base hits through 204 plate appearances. Rotowire.com May 24, 8:06 pm
