    Advice: Murphy's recovery from a Grade 1 left oblique strain has inched along at a snail's pace, but he's finally making real progress.   • Making MLB debut Saturday
    The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

    Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season.   • Brayan Rocchio delivers game-winner in 10th
    Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-4 with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th as the Guardians defeated the Tigers 5-4 on Wednesday.

    Advice: The Guardians just needed one in the 10th, and they got it after a sac bunt to advance the runner to third. The single accounted for Rocchio’s fifth RBI in 120 plate appearances this season. He’s batting .223/.319/.301 with middling defense, so there’s still the possibility that the Guardians will make a change at shortstop at some point. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago
     
  • Tanner Bibee pulled after four against Tigers
    Tanner Bibee gave up four runs in four innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

    Advice: Bibee cruised through three innings, allowing just one single, but everything went wrong in the fourth, which started with a single to conclude a 10-pitch at-bat. The Tigers wound up getting three more hits, as well as a key HBP, to produce a four-run inning in which Bibee threw more pitches (43) than in the first three combined (39). It was such a long inning that the Guardians didn’t bring Bibee back out for the fifth. Unfortunately, Bibee will miss the four-game series against the White Sox this weekend and make his next start in Texas against the Rangers. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Reese Olson allows just one hit to Guardians
    Reese Olson held the Guardians to two runs — one earned — and one hit over six innings on Wednesday.

    Advice: Olson gave up six hard-hit balls, but five turned into groundouts and the other was a routine fly. The lone hit was a well-placed grounder from Austin Hedges that produced two runs after two walks and an error in the first. It’s Olson’s third straight strong outing, but he just can’t find his way into the win column. Left with a no-decision today after the bullpen blew a two-run lead, he’s 0-4 in spite of a 2.52 ERA.   • Alex Lange takes loss in 10th to Guardians
    After the Tigers failed to score in the top of the inning, Alex Lange took a loss in the 10th against the Guardians on Wednesday.

    Advice: The Tigers really mixed things up relief-wise in this one, turning to Jason Foley for two outs in the seventh and Joey Wentz for four outs through the eighth. Wentz allowed an unearned run, narrowing Detroit’s lead to one, and Andrew Chafin, given a rare chance to close, made that go away by giving up a homer to David Fry. Lange went on to get the final out of the ninth. In the 10th, he got an out on a sac bunt and then gave up the winning single. While Foley remains the favorite for saves in Detroit, it looks like this is going to be a frustrating situation going forward. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago
     
  • David Fry hits game-tying homer in ninth
    David Fry hit a game-tying homer off Andrew Chafin in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

    Advice: Some curious bullpen management from the Tigers today got Fry a good matchup against a lefty in the ninth and he wound up with his second homer. This was actually a rare start against a righty for Fry, but he went 0-for-3 against them. The homer off Chafin made him 10-for-24 with four extra-base hits, 10 walks and two HBPs versus lefties this season. That’s a ridiculous .595 OBP. Unfortunately, an expanded role for Fry seems even less likely now that Kyle Manzardo is up. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

    Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Wednesday that Sean Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cages.

    Advice: The 29-year-old backstop continues his slow and methodical progress in his return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. It sounds like a minor league rehab stint could be on the horizon soon, though it remains unclear how many games he’ll need there to get his timing back before he’s ready to rejoin the Braves.     The Rays reinstated Bradley (pectoral) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

    Advice: Bradley is slated to make his season debut Friday against the Yankees at Tropicana Field, but the Rays opted to activate the right-hander two days early after rotation mate Ryan Pepiot (lower leg) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. The 23-year-old showed no sign of being affected by the pectoral strain he suffered in spring training over the course of his two rehab starts with Triple-A Durham, as he struck out 15 while allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks across 11 innings. Bradley built up to 94 pitches in his second outing with Durham last Friday and shouldn't face any workload restrictions in his first start with Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
