    • Extends throwing distance
      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

      Advice: Rodriguez had to pause his throwing program in early April due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the fact that he's extended his throwing distance is an encouraging sign. He was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on April 17, which would make the left-hander eligible to return in mid-June. Rotowire.com Today, 4:55 pm

      Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.

      Advice: He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut.       Gavin Williams (elbow) threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.

      Advice: The positive news here is that Williams didn’t experience any discomfort in his first bullpen session since receiving an anti-inflammatory injection earlier this month to address right elbow discomfort.     • Delivers five-out save Wednesday
      Munoz gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Royals.

      Advice: Austin Voth ran into trouble in the eighth inning, so Munoz got the call with runners on second and third and only one out to protect a 3-1 lead. The Mariners' closer did allow an inherited runner to score, but Seattle got the run right back in the bottom of the frame and Munoz dominated the ninth. It's the fourth time this season he's worked more than one inning to notch a save, and with Matt Brash (elbow) done for the year and Gregory Santos (lat) potentially not back until the All-Star break, Munoz may have to continue putting in extra work until Seattle settles on a new setup crew.     • Andrés Muñoz slams door on Royals on Wednesday
      Andrés Muñoz slammed the door on the Royals on Wednesday afternoon, recording the final five outs to protect a two-run lead and earn his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander came on with runners at second and third with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners leading 4-1. He did allow a run to score as Bobby Witt Jr. grounded out to second base, but then Muñoz punched out Vinnie Pasquantino to end the threat. He returned for the ninth where he allowed a leadoff double to Salvador Perez but nothing more — finishing the frame with a pair of strikeouts.       Pivetta came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander generated an impressive 32 called or swinging strikes among his 81 pitches, but both runs off Pivetta came on solo shots by Josh Lowe and Randy Arozarena, with the latter chasing him from the game one out short of his second quality start of the season. Pivetta has served up five homers in two starts since coming off the IL, a worrisome trend, but he'll carry a 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 20.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.     • Nick Pivetta bounces back with solid effort vs TB
      Nick Pivetta allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays.

      Advice: Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts.       Miller (shoulder) will throw two simulated innings at the Dodgers' complex in Arizona on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Assuming all goes well Wednesday, Miller will move onto either a three-inning sim game or begin a rehab assignment with one of the Dodgers' minor-league affiliates.
