Mitch Spence threw 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four in a win over the Rays.
Advice: This was just Spence’s third start of the season and the first time he’s thrown at least five innings this season. This feels like a bit of a best-case scenario for the 25-year-old, who had just six whiffs on 44 swings for a 14 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. Spence relies heavily on a slider-cutter combination that he threw 80 percent of the time on Tuesday and kept the Rays from squaring anything up. Even though Spence has a 3.52 ERA on the season, he should not be started against the Braves this weekend.
