      Alzolay (1-4) allowed three runs on four hits while retiring just a single batter to take the loss Friday against the Brewers.

      Advice: Alzolay came on with one out in the eighth inning and promptly got into trouble, allowing a couple of quick singles before recording an out. The Brewers also ran freely on Alzolay, stealing three bases while he was on the mound. It's been a rough start to the season for the righty, as he's saddled with a 5.54 ERA and has been removed from the closer's role in favor of Hector Neris.       Alvarado earned the save in Friday's 4-3 win over the Giants, allowing a hit while logging a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: Alvarado allowed a leadoff single before setting down the next three Giants, closing out the one-run victory for his sixth save of the season. After giving up five runs in his first outing of the year, Alvarado's allowed just one run in his subsequent 13 innings.     • José Alvarado notched sixth save for Phillies
      José Alvarado threw a scoreless ninth in a one-run game for his sixth save Friday against the Giants.

      Advice: Alvarado gave up five runs on Opening Day and remained wild for a spell after that, but he’s walked just one in his last nine appearances and given up one run in 14 appearances.     • Pete Fairbanks ready to start rehab on Tuesday
      Pete Fairbanks (nerve issue) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

      Advice: The 30-year-old hurler has been out since April 22 due to a nerve-related condition that caused him difficulty in gripping the baseball. He should only need an outing or two there before he’s ready to rejoin the Rays’ bullpen. Rotoworld Friday, 2:27 pm
       
    • Adbert Alzolay gives up three runs to take loss
      After coming in with a 1-0 lead in the eighth, Adbert Alzolay gave up three runs on four hits to take a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

      Advice: All four hits were singles, and three of them were soft, coming in at 80 mph or less. Two were grounders perfectly placed in between Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner up the middle. To be fair, Alzolay was missing his spots, and he hurt his cause by paying no attention to the baserunners and giving up three steals. Obviously, this won’t help his chances of seeing saves again anytime soon. Still, this isn’t how he usually struggles when he’s ineffective; he hadn’t allowed more than two hits in an appearance since last Sept. 1. Rotoworld Friday, 2:02 pm
       
    • Rehab assignment starting soon
      Fairbanks (arm) is set to begin a rehab stint at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Friday.

      Advice: Fairbanks has been dealing with a nerve issue in his throwing arm and after receiving positive results on testing done in late April, he's set to see game action. It's unclear how long his stint in Durham will be, but once Fairbanks is back with the Rays, expect him to reclaim closing duties from Jason Adam and Garrett Cleavinger.       Alzolay (1-3) allowed three unearned runs on two hits across one inning to take the loss Tuesday against the Mets.

      Advice: Alzolay should have had a 1-2-3 sixth inning, but a Dansby Swanson throwing error gave the Mets life, and they took advantage. A single and a three-run home run by DJ Stewart quickly broke open a 1-1 tie, and New York hung on for the 4-2 win, which saddled Alzolay with his third loss of the season. While it wasn't all his fault Tuesday, it's been a struggle overall for the righty, as he blew four saves in the early going to get yanked from the closer's role.       Alvarado pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save in an 8-6 win over the Padres on Sunday. He struck out two.

      Advice: Alvarado punched out Eguy Rosario and Luis Campusano before sealing the deal on a line out from Jurickson Profar for his first save since April 20. Alvarado has converted all five of his save chances, though he has an inflated ERA after giving up five runs in just two-thirds of an inning in his first appearance of the season.       Jose Alvarado slammed the door on the Padres in the ninth inning on Sunday, retiring all three batters that he faced to protect a two-run advantage.

      Advice: Alvarado came out guns blazing in this one, striking out Eguy Rosario and Luis Campusano before getting Jurickson Profar on a line drive to right field to end it. The 28-year-old left-hander has struggled a bit to start the season — sporting a 5.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 12/7 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings, but he has converted all five of his save chances and remains the Phillies’ go-to option in the ninth inning.
