Crochet came away with a no-decision Sunday against the Rockies, allowing two earned runs on five hits and zero walks while striking out 11 over seven innings.
Advice: Crochet's workload was a major question entering this outing -- reports earlier this week stated his workload was "going to start dwindling". The 25-year-old threw 88 pitches and made it through seven-plus innings for the third time this season, temporarily quieting the concerns. The White Sox will be cautious with Crochet ahead of the trade deadline, but he remains a must-start as long as he is active. The southpaw owns a 3.02 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and a league-leading 141 strikeouts over 101.1 innings this season. He is tentatively scheduled for a road start in Miami next weekend. Garrett Crochet allowed two runs in seven innings and got a no-decision against the Rockies on Sunday.
Advice: Crochet gave up five hits, walked none and struck out 11. He was excellent once again. Both runs Crochet allowed came in the second inning when the Rockies scored on a balk and a sacrifice fly. Otherwise, he dominated with 11 strikeouts and now has a 3.02 ERA on the season. Crochet continues to make his case for the American League Cy Young award. In his last 11 starts, he has a 1.48 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Marlins on the road next weekend.
Waldron (5-7) took the loss Sunday against the Red Sox. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits, one walk and three strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Advice: Waldron was plagued by the long ball, as he allowed two homers in a start for the first time this season. He snapped a streak of nine straight starts in which he allowed two runs or fewer. The knuckleballer has been a revelation for the Padres rotation this season, and he'll take a 3.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP into his next start vs. the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.comYesterday, 2:21 pm
Corey Seager, who hurt his left hand when he was hit by a pitch Saturday, is out of the Rangers lineup for Sunday night’s game against the Orioles.
Advice: Josh Smith starts at shortstop, with Davis Wendzel playing third base. The good news is that Seager isn’t going on the IL, at least not yet. The Rangers have tomorrow off, so they can wait until Tuesday to make a decision there. RotoworldYesterday, 1:41 pm
Matt Waldron yielded four runs — three earned — in 4 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Red Sox.
Advice: Waldron didn’t seem to have his best knuckler today, and the Red Sox wound up with eight hard-hit balls against him, including a pair of homers. This snaps a string of six straight quality starts for Waldron. He hadn’t pitched fewer than five innings or allowed more than two runs in nine starts since May 5. RotoworldYesterday, 1:38 pm
Seager (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Advice: The 30-year-old had X-rays come back negative after being struck in the left wrist by a pitch Saturday, and he'll miss at least one start. The Rangers are calling up Jonathan Ornelas for added infield depth, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, which could signify that Seager will miss some time. No IL move is coming Sunday though, as Brock Burke was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Josh Smith is starting at shortstop as Davis Wendzel mans the hot corner. Rotowire.comYesterday, 1:37 pm
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Advice: Smith will get a day off after he had started in five of the Dodgers' previous six contests. Austin Barnes will check in for Smith behind the dish and will bat ninth. Rotowire.comYesterday, 11:22 am
Freeman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Advice: Though he's on the bench for Sunday's series finale, Freeman appears to have moved back into a quasi-everyday role with Will Brennan (ribs) recently landing on the injured list. Freeman, who has slashed .169/.272/.268 thus far in June, had started in each of the Guardians' last five games. Rotowire.comYesterday, 10:57 am
Candelario (hamstring) will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 3 batter in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Advice: After missing out on four straight starts due to hamstring tendinitis, Candelario will draw back into the lineup in a non-defensive role as he makes his fifth start of the season at DH. With Noelvi Marte recently completing his 80-game suspension and likely to see the bulk of the starts at third base moving forward, Candelario could end up picking up most of his playing time at either DH or first base, which should aid his recovery from the hamstring issue.
