    • Goes deep Monday
Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Marlins in Monday's 6-3 win.

Advice: Though his long ball didn't travel nearly as far, Freeman followed Shohei Ohtani in the first inning Monday as the pair slugged back-to-back homers. Freeman has yet to fully flex his power this season -- he has just three homers through 167 plate appearances -- but he's been otherwise productive, as usual, with a .292/.407/.445 slash line, 21 RBI, 18 runs and a stolen base. The veteran first baseman is also tied for seventh in the league with 10 doubles and tied for fifth with 24 walks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:58 pm
    • Freddie Freeman homers as Dodgers top Marlins
Freddie Freeman hit a solo homer in a victory Monday over the Marlins.

Advice: Freeman went back-to-back with Shohei Ohtani, and his solo blast gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. The 34-year-old hasn’t shown a ton of pop in the early portion of the year, as it’s just the third homer for the veteran first baseman in 2024. He’s hitting .292 with a .407 on-base percentage, however, and all of those numbers are sure to climb as we get deeper into the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:30 pm
    • Nick Castellanos finally collects first double
Nick Castellanos doubled, singled and walked twice versus the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Each time it looks like Castellanos might be turning the corner, he’s gone right back to slumping the next day. Still, this rates as his best game so far this season. The double was hit 389 feet and would have been a homer in nine ballparks. Incredibly, it was the first two-bagger of the year for a guy who once had 58 of them. He finished with 37 last season. • Manzardo activated, hitting seventh in debut
Guardians recalled 1B Kyle Manzardo from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: The move was reported last night, but it’s now official. Manzardo struggled in 2023 but has always been a prospect who figured to hit for a high batting average with 20-25 home run power at first base. He was off to a great start at Triple-A, hitting .303/.375/.642 with nine homers and 20 RBI through his first 29 games. He’ll start at DH and bat seventh in his MLB debut on Monday. • Called up, hitting seventh Monday
The Guardians selected Manzardo's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Monday. He'll serve as the Guardians' designated hitter and hit seventh in Monday's series opener versus the Tigers.

Advice: With Steven Kwan (hamstring) landing on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move, Manzardo should get the chance to play on an everyday basis in his first taste of the big leagues. If he performs well enough, Manzardo should have a strong case for sticking around with Cleveland even after Kwan returns, as the 23-year-old is viewed as one of the organization's top hitting prospects and isn't in need of further development time in the minors. In his first full season with the Cleveland organization after coming over from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline last July, Manzardo slashed .303/.375/.642 with nine home runs, 20 RBI and 25 runs across 128 plate appearances for Columbus. Though he'll be deployed at DH on Monday, Manzardo picked up 24 starts at first base with Columbus and could be an option at the position when Josh Naylor needs a day off. • Strikes out nine in quality start
Cortes did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 6.1 innings against the Tigers. He struck out nine.

Advice: Cortes matched a season high with nine strikeouts, as he allowed only four baserunners in the contest. Cortes shut out the Tigers through six but was pulled with one out in the seventh after allowing two base hits in the inning. Both runners eventually came around to score, tying the game and ending Cortes' bid to earn his second win. It was the fourth quality start in eight games for Cortes, who lowered his ERA to 3.72 with a 1.03 WHIP and 46 strikeouts through 48.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled to take place next weekend when the Yankees travel to Tampa for a division showdown against the Rays. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:25 pm

    • Kyle Manzardo will join Guardians on Monday
Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports that the Guardians will promote top prospect Kyle Manzardo from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Advice: As had been speculated, Steven Kwan will land on the 10-day injured list with his hamstring injury and the Guardians will add Manzardo to the roster in his place. The 23-year-old slugger has been lighting the world on fire at Triple-A Columbus — hitting .303/.375/.642 with nine homers and 20 RBI through his first 29 games. He has a chance to step in as an immediate impact performer from a fantasy perspective and should be scooped up in any leagues where he may be available. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:22 pm

    • Nestor Cortes fans nine in no-decision on Sunday
Nestor Cortes looked sharp in a no-decision against the Tigers on Sunday, giving up two runs on just three hits over 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The crafty 29-year-old southpaw piled up nine strikeouts on a rainy afternoon in the Bronx while allowing just one base on balls. He kept the Tigers off the board completely through the first six innings, but he allowed a pair of singles before departing in the seventh — and both runners came around to score against the Yankees’ bullpen. Cortes got 13 whiffs on 97 pitches on the day, registering a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll attempt to get back in the win column as he carries a 3.72 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 46/8 K/BB ratio (48 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Rays in Tampa Bay. • Jackson Chourio goes hitless in loss to Cubs
Jackson Chourio went 0-for-2 and was pinch-hit for in the seventh inning as the Brewers were shut out by the Cubs on Sunday afternoon.

Advice: The 20-year-old phenom fouled out to first base in the third inning and bounced into a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning. While he has shown flashes of greatness, it has been a struggle overall through his first 30 games — slashing a troublesome .219/.265/.352 with four homers, 13 RBI, six stolen bases and a 35/7 K/BB ratio over 114 plate appearances. It seems like the Brewers are content sticking with him and letting him take his lumps at the big league level, but if the struggles continue at this rate, eventually something may have to give.
