    • Red Sox move Garrett Whitlock (elbow) to 60-day IL
Red Sox transferred RHP Garrett Whitlock from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Whitlock is now off the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old right-hander will miss the rest of 2024 as he underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in late May. His next chance to pitch will likely come in the early portion of the 2025 campaign. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Lynch heading back to Kansas City to replace Wacha
Royals recalled LHP Daniel Lynch from Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Lynch is back with the Royals after the injury to Michael Wacha (foot) caused Wacha to be placed on the injured list. Lynch allowed two earned runs — three total — over five innings in an emergency start Thursday, and he’ll have a chance to make more starts with Wacha on the shelf. Lynch has some upside, but there’s just as much risk as there is reward. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
    • Royals place Wacha on 15-day IL with foot fracture
Royals placed RHP Michael Wacha on the 15-day injured list with a left foot fracture.

Advice: Wacha was seen using a walking boot Friday after being hit with a line drive during Friday’s start, and the Royals aren’t going to take any chances with the 32-year-old. This likely won’t be a minimum stint on the injured list, but his status should be updated in the coming days. Daniel Lynch was recalled to take Wacha’s place on the roster. • Called up, rejoining rotation
The Royals recalled Lynch from Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.

Advice: Lynch was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, but he'll be back with the big club just two days later after Michael Wacha was placed on the 15-day injured list with a fractured left foot. With Wacha's injury likely to keep him sidelined for several weeks, Lynch will take the right-hander's spot in the rotation, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Lynch previously made two spot starts and two-inning relief appearance for the Royals last month, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight over 12 frames. The southpaw was similarly sharp over his four outings with Omaha in May (2.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 15:4 K:BB in 21.2 innings), and he'll look to carry over that strong form for what could be an extended run in the big-league rotation. He tentatively lines up to make his first start in place of Wacha on Thursday in Cleveland. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago
    • Heads to IL with fractured foot
The Royals placed Wacha on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a non-displaced left foot fracture.

Advice: X-rays revealed that Wacha suffered structural damage to his foot after he was hit by a 90 mile-per-hour comebacker off the bat of Luis Arraez in the opening inning of Friday's 11-8 loss to the Padres. Despite the fact that he was likely dealing with some pain, Wacha stayed in the game and proceeded to cover 5.1 innings while allowing two runs in a no-decision. The Royals haven't provided a timeline for Wacha's return, but given the nature of his injury, he's likely to miss beyond the minimum 15 days regardless of whether or not he requires surgery. Daniel Lynch was called up from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move and will take Wacha's spot in the rotation during the upcoming week. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

    • Activated for Sunday's start
The Guardians reinstated Carrasco (neck) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Nationals.

Advice: Cleveland made room for Carrasco on the 26-man active roster by placing right-handed reliever Eli Morgan (elbow) on the 15-day injured list. Carrasco ended up spending the minimum amount of time on the shelf due to acute neck spasms, which he experienced coming out of his most recent start May 15. Though he's not expected to face any major workload restrictions as he steps back into the Cleveland rotation Sunday, Carrasco is tough to trust for fantasy purposes after he delivered a 5.16 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over his first nine starts of the season. • Heads to 60-day IL
The Red Sox transferred Whitlock (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.

Advice: The transaction is merely a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder/outfielder Jamie Westbrook, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Worcester ahead of Sunday's game against the Tigers. Whitlock is already slated to miss the remainder of the season after he underwent an internal bracing procedure on his right elbow earlier in the week. He's expected to make a full recovery in 10-to-12 months, making it likely that he opens the 2025 season on the shelf. Rotowire.com Today, 7:24 am

    • DFA'd by Oakland
The Athletics designated Brooks for assignment on Sunday.

Advice: Brooks joined Oakland's rotation in mid-May but won't retain his place on the 40-man roster after he made four starts and posted a 5.82 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB over 21.2 innings. Luis Medina (knee) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move and will start Sunday in Atlanta. Rotowire.com Today, 7:24 am
    • Called up for Sunday's start
Priester was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will start Sunday against the Blue Jays, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old will join Pittsburgh's rotation Sunday as the replacement for Martin Perez (groin), who landed on the injured list Tuesday. Priester has been decent in five starts for the Pirates this season with a 4.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB across 27 innings, and another solid outing Sunday could earn him a longer look in the rotation.
