• Confirmed for Tuesday's start
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed on MLB Network Radio that Manning will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manning had been on turn at Triple-A Toledo but instead will start Tuesday with the big club since they have a need. Jack Flaherty is getting the ball in the first game. Manning has looked good in his two previous starts with Detroit this season, yielding four runs while putting up a 10:6 K:BB over 12.1 innings. He will be the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader and is likely to be sent back down after the start. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Starting rehab assignment
Winder (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Fort Myers on Tuesday, team broadcaster John Vittas reports.

Advice: Winder is on the Twins' 60-day injured list due to a scapular stress fracture in his right shoulder which he suffered late last season. He will be eligible for activation in late May but would not appear to be a given to be added to the major-league roster once he's deemed ready. Rotowire.com 29 minutes ago

  • Latches on with ChiSox
Walsh signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Walsh elected free agency after being removed from the Rangers' 40-man roster earlier this month. The 30-year-old hit just .226/.317/.321 with one home run through 60 plate appearances with Texas. He'll go to extended spring training for now before eventually reporting to Triple-A Charlotte, where he'll give the White Sox some veteran protection at first base. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • White Sox sign Jared Walsh to minor league contract
White Sox signed 1B Jared Walsh to a minor league contract.

Advice: Walsh will report to Arizona before he is assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. The 30-year-old hit .226/.317/.321 with a home run and seven RBI in 60 plate appearances with the Rangers this season, but was let go after the team brought back Nathaniel Lowe from the injured list. • Swipes third bag
Winker went 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: The 30-year-old had a busy day despite his lack of success with the bat, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, then reaching base on a fielder's choice and stealing a bag in the seventh. Winker's reached base safely in 17 of the last 19 games, slashing .278/.369/.472 over that stretch with all three of his homers and all three of his stolen bases on the season along with 13 runs and 13 RBI. With Lane Thomas (knee) and Joey Gallo (shoulder) sidelined, Winker's become the everyday starter in left field, while Eddie Rosario and Alex Call platoon in right. Rotowire.com Today, 7:21 am
  • Hits mid-90s in bullpen
Senga (shoulder) reached the mid-90s with his fastball during Monday's bullpen against live hitters and used all of his pitches in the session, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Mets have been very deliberate so far with Senga's recovery from a shoulder capsule strain, but the organization's patience seems to be paying off. While the right-hander feels he will be back in the big-league rotation right around when he's first eligible to come off the IL on May 27, general manager David Stearns wouldn't sign off on that timeline, indicating Monday that he couldn't say whether Senga would be back in late May or early June. The 31-year-old is set to face live hitters two more times before beginning a rehab assignment around May 11. Rotowire.com Today, 7:06 am

  • Gets benched Monday
Sanchez was benched in favor of Dane Myers during the third inning of Monday's loss to the Nationals, Christina DeNicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old got the start in right field but misjudged a looping single into the gap by Alex Call, backpedaling to take the hop and then turning to joke with center fielder Jazz Chisholm about it. The lapse in attention not only allowed Call to stretch his hit into a double, it led to a thumb injury for shortstop Tim Anderson as he tried to apply the tag at second base. Manager Skip Schumaker then pinch hit for Sanchez in the bottom of the frame as part of a double switch, with Vidal Brujan taking over for Anderson. "I have literally no rules except for giving me everything you have," Schumaker said after the game. "He lost the ball in the lights. I've lost the ball in the lights many times. After that, I felt like the effort wasn't there, and so I decided to remove him from the game." The gaffe doesn't seem like it will impact Sanchez's role or workload, and the message from his manager seemed to have been received. "It was just the matter of I disrespected all my teammates," Sanchez said. "That's one of the things that actually I was not feeling well [about], because it's a terrible feeling. And I know that I'm an important piece of the team that I could help, and I took myself out of the game." Sanchez is slashing .239/.282/.328 through 24 games with two homers and a career-high four steals. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am
  • Bangs out first career hit
Barger went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's win over the Royals.

Advice: Getting the start at third base and batting ninth, Barger collected his first career big-league hit with a single to lead off the sixth inning. The 24-year-old has gone just 1-for-15 with four strikeouts since his promotion while seeing action at third base and both outfield corners, but he has more errors (two) than hits so far with the Blue Jays, and a return to Triple-A in the near future seems likely if he doesn't turn things around quickly. • Collects second career save
Pearson gave up two hits and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season in a win over the Royals.

Advice: With Jordan Romano and Yimi Garcia having pitched each of the prior two days, and Erik Swanson getting deployed in the eighth inning Monday, closing duties fell to Pearson and he handled them well en route to his second career save. The 27-year-old right-hander fired 11 of 16 pitches for strikes, and his fastball reached 100 mph as he struck out Michael Massey to end the game. Pearson has been scored upon only once in 11 big-league appearances this season, and while his control has wavered at times, he sports a 1.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB through 10 innings. The Blue Jays have a deep bullpen, but Pearson is making a case to at least be a part-time member of the high-leverage crew. Rotowire.com Today, 6:33 am
