    • Inching closer to rehab assignment
Suzuki (oblique) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday alongside Cody Bellinger (ribs), Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Suzuki suffered a right oblique strain April 14. He was first limited to light activity in his rehab, but Suzuki has since progressed to on-field batting practice. After his batting session Wednesday, Suzuki noted that he felt he was 80 percent recovered from his oblique strain and could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues to progress, per Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune. • Begins rehab assignment
Friedl (wrist) began a rehab assignment Thursday and is 1-for-7 with a walk over two games for Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Friedl, batting in his customary leadoff spot, played seven innings at shortstop Thursday and a full game Friday as the designated hitter. Reds manager David Bell told Mike Petraglia of MLB.com that he'll have a better idea of Friedl's return timeline by the end of the weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 6:27 am

    • Ends homer drought Friday
Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.

Advice: The 25-year-old shortstop had gone 17 straight games without a homer coming into Friday and nearly made it 18. but he got hold of a Jalen Beeks changeup in the ninth inning to make things close for the Pirates. It was Cruz's fourth long ball of the season and his first off a southpaw, and the RBI were his first since April 22. While the performance was encouraging, he still sports a disappointing .240/.287/.364 slash line through 33 contests with three steals, nine runs and 10 RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:40 pm

    • Oneil Cruz hits fourth homer versus Rockies
Oneil Cruz hit a two-run homer to provide the only scoring for the Pirates against the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: Unfortunately, the Pirates were down three in the ninth at the time. To go along with his 111.7-mph homer, Cruz also had a 111-3 mph line drive, that unfortunately was hit right at the center fielder, and a 103.3-mph groundout. That makes this one of his best nights of the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:48 pm

    • Bobby Miller (shoulder) throws bullpen on Friday
Bobby Miller (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday.

Advice: The 25-year-old hurler will likely repeat the process another time or two before facing live hitters, but he’s trending in the right direction. Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts noted that Miller should be able to ramp up quickly once he’s ready to face live hitters, so take that for what it’s worth. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:11 pm

    • Throws off mound
Miller (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Miller has been on the injured list since April 13 due to inflammation in his right shoulder, and Friday marked his first time throwing off a mound since then. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he isn't sure how many more bullpen sessions Miller will need to throw before he progresses to facing live hitters, so the 25-year-old righty will likely remain without a clear return timeline until he gets to that point. • Hitting off tee
Murphy (oblique) began hitting off the tee during Atlanta's most recent series against Seattle earlier this week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: It's the first time Murphy has swung the bat since landing on the 10-day IL on March 30 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain. Prior to the series in Seattle, Murphy was limited to light throwing and catching work in the bullpen. The 29-year-old has taken a positive step in his program, but he still has a ways to go before starting a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:53 pm

    • Sean Murphy (oblique) takes swings off a tee
Sean Murphy (oblique) took swings off of a tee while the Braves were in Seattle.

Advice: It’s a small step, but it’s at least a step in the right direction for the hard-hitting backstop. Everything went well with that swinging session and the club will continue to ramp him up from there. There’s still no clear timetable for when he may be able to return. • On track to return Monday
Steele (hamstring) will start Monday against the Padres as long as he gets through a bullpen session Saturday with no issues, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: The results of Steele's lone rehab start weren't great -- he allowed three runs on six hits over 3.1 innings -- but he feels good and has put his hamstring injury in the rearview mirror, which is the most important thing. Steele threw 63 pitches in his rehab outing Wednesday, so he will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Monday, assuming he is indeed cleared to rejoin the Cubs' rotation that day.
