    • Max Scherzer (thumb) currently in holding pattern
Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is currently in a holding pattern when it comes to his rehab process.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander was scratched from a rehab outing earlier in the week due to inflammation in his thumb ligament. While that issue hasn’t gotten any worse, it also hasn’t improved over the last couple of days, causing the Rangers to kind of put everything on hold. They’ll continue to take things day-to-day until he feels improvement and is ready to resume playing catch again. Obviously that means there’s no clear timetable for when he may take the mound for the Rangers. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

    • Luis Arraez leading off in Padres debut Saturday
Luis Arraez will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff in his Padres’ debut against the Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

Advice: The sweet-swinging 27-year-old was hitting .299/.347/.372 with zero homers and five RBI through 148 plate appearances with the Marlins. He’ll now serve as the catalyst for a Padres’ offense that could use a boost at the top of the order. Jurickson Profar — who had been serving as the team’s leadoff hitter — will slide down to the fifth spot in the lineup on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 2:24 pm

    • Christopher Morel continues power surge vs. Brewers
Christopher Morel went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk on Saturday against the Brewers.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the first inning, Morel took Tobias Myers deep for a two-run homer in the third to extend the Cubs lead. Morel can certainly hit homers in bunches, as he’s now gone yard in three straight games and four of his last six. The 24-year-old third baseman is slashing .213/.292/.426 with seven homers, 20 runs scored, 20 RBI, and three steals across 137 plate appearances. Despite the low batting average, Morel has significantly cut down his strikeout rate so far this season, a good sign that we can see his numbers improve as we get into the summer. • Padres officially acquire Luis Arraez from Marlins
Padres acquired Luis Arraez and cash considerations from the Marlins for OF Dillon Head, OF Jakob Marsee, 1B Nathan Martorella and RHP Woo-Suk Go.

Advice: What was announced Friday is official Saturday. Arraez will head to the Padres after hitting .299 with a 719 OPS over 137 at-bats with the Marlins in 2023, and he’s a career .324/.377/.423 hitter in his time with the Fish and the Twins. He should play everyday and hit near the top of the order, but just keep in mind his strong average doesn’t come with help in other categories. Rotoworld Today, 7:36 am

    • Blows save, takes first loss Friday
Foley (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits without recording an out to blow the save and take the loss Friday against the Yankees.

Advice: Foley came on in the ninth inning to protect a 1-0 Detroit lead, but the righty struggled and blew his first save of the season in 10 chances. He's still sitting with a solid 2.63 ERA overall and should remain the team's closer for now, though it's a fluid situation with Alex Lange, Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin all potentially waiting in the wings if Foley stumbles again. Lange led the Tigers with 26 saves last year and has been sharp with a 0.75 ERA in 2024, so he may be the next man up in this bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 7:23 am
    • Implodes in Friday's loss
Alzolay (1-4) allowed three runs on four hits while retiring just a single batter to take the loss Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: Alzolay came on with one out in the eighth inning and promptly got into trouble, allowing a couple of quick singles before recording an out. The Brewers also ran freely on Alzolay, stealing three bases while he was on the mound. It's been a rough start to the season for the righty, as he's saddled with a 5.54 ERA and has been removed from the closer's role in favor of Hector Neris. Alzolay doesn't have a ton of fantasy appeal in his current form. Rotowire.com Today, 7:04 am
    • Fighting slump
Seager went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 7-1 loss to Kansas City.

Advice: Seager delivered the Rangers' lone run with a single in the third inning. He's been mired in a slump and entered Friday's game batting .073 (3-for-41) with two RBI over the previous 11 games. Rangers general manager Chris Young took the long view when speaking with Kenndi Landry of MLB.com, indicating the club expected Seager to need some time to get going after undergoing hernia surgery in January. Young also feels there has been some bad luck, which speaks to the shortstop's .269 BABIP. Rotowire.com Today, 6:57 am

    • Acuña hits game-tying homer, but Atlanta falls to LAD
Ronald Acuña hit a solo homer while going 2-for-5 in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: Acuña Jr. hasn’t shown a ton of power in the early portion of the season, but he came through in a big way with a game-tying homer in the eighth off Daniel Hudson in the eighth. That’s just the second roundtripper of the season for the reigning MVP, but it’s hard to fathom the power isn’t going to come from a player that swatted 41 homers in 2023. • Perfect day at dish
Contreras went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Contreras scored runs in the first and fifth innings, both coming via Nolan Arenado doubles. Since his last multi-hit game April 17, Contreras was stuck in a 9-for-43 (.209) slump in 12 games. Despite the streakiness, he still owns a strong .281/.395/.531 slash line through 114 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:52 pm
