• Throwing off mound
Smyly (hip) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: He's continuing his throwing progression as he works his way back from a right hip impingement. Smyly has already missed a couple weeks of action and will probably be asked to make at least one rehab appearance before being activated. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Brazoban to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports..

Advice: Brazoban missed all of spring training and spent the first month of the season on the restricted list with visa issues. Those have been resolved, but he will head to Jacksonville for now to knock the rust off as he looks to earn a spot back in the Marlins' bullpen. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago
  • D-backs activate Paul Sewald for Tuesday return
Diamondbacks activated RHP Paul Sewald from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Sewald has been sidelined since the beginning of the regular season with a left oblique strain. The 33-year-old veteran, who finished with a 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP with both the Mariners and Diamondbacks last season, will slide back as the D-backs’ closer which puts an end to Kevin Ginkel’s brief stint in the role. • Officially back from injured list
The Diamondbacks reinstated Sewald (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: The 33-year-old right-hander has been sidelined by an oblique strain but is ready to rejoin the team following three rehab appearances. Now that he's healthy, Sewald should reclaim the closer role from Kevin Ginkel, who tallied five saves with a 2.57 ERA in 14 appearances. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
  • Moved to Triple-A
McGough was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Advice: McGough will make room for Paul Sewald to be reinstated from the 15-day IL, being sent down to the minors after making 15 appearances with the D-Backs. McGough has endured a rocky 2024 campaign, falling to a 6.75 ERA and a 10:10 K:BB ratio over 16 innings with a 1-3 record and a pair of blown saves. He'll look to get back on track with Reno. • Playing catch, but progressing slowly
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said April 28 that Hall (knee) has started playing catch and is "progressing," but the left-hander remains without a clear timeline for a return from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hall was placed on the IL on April 21, one day after he sprained his left knee while fielding a bunt in his start against the Cardinals. The young southpaw was able to stay in the game upon suffering the injury, but he saw a stark decline in his velocity thereafter, prompting the Brewers to shut him down. Hall is in the process of rehabbing and strengthening the knee and hasn't hit any reported snags in the recovery process, but until he reaches the point that he's able to face hitters, the team likely won't have a concrete target date for his return from the IL. • Transferred for rehab at AAA
Burdi's (hip) has been transferred to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to continue his rehab assignment.

Advice: Burdi started his rehab stint at Double-A Somerset, but he'll get the opportunity to pitch at the Triple-A level before his eventual reinstatement, which should come within the next week or so. Rotowire.com Today, 12:00 pm

  • Excels in four-inning rehab start
Marsh (elbow) struck out six and gave up one hit and one walk over four shutout innings Sunday in his rehab start with Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said prior to Sunday's rehab outing that Marsh was being targeted for 60-to-65 pitches, but the right-hander fell slightly short of that benchmark with 53 pitches (38 strikes). In any case, Marsh mowed down the Triple-A Iowa lineup in efficient fashion and looks as though he could be ready to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Friday against the Angels. If the Royals instead decide to give Marsh one more rehab start to increase his pitch count, Daniel Lynch would likely be in store for a second turn through the rotation this weekend. • Returns to relief role
Martinez made his most recent appearance as a reliever in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles, striking out two and allowing no hits and one walk over two scoreless innings.

Advice: Martinez's prior two appearances came as a starter, but he moved back to the bullpen over the weekend in anticipation of Frankie Montas' (forearm) return to the rotation. With the Reds officially activating Montas from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Martinez should stick in the bullpen moving forward until one of Cincinnati's five starters succumbs to another injury.
