The Athletics designated Nevin for assignment on Tuesday.

Advice: Nevin had a strong start to his campaign for the Athletics with an .875 OPS through his first 25 games, but a 1-for-43 slump will end up costing him his place on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster. Aledmys Diaz (calf) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

Diaz (calf) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Diaz has missed the first two months of the 2024 campaign with a strained right calf he sustained in early March. He appeared in 10 games at Triple-A during his rehab assignment and slashed .154/.313/.308 with six walks and five strikeouts in 32 plate appearances. He figures to compete with Max Schuemann and Abraham Toro for work at shortstop and third base. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Tyler Nevin removed from 40-man roster by A’s
Athletics designated INF Tyler Nevin for assignment.

Advice: Nevin hit .220 with four homers and a .649 OPS while he was with Oakland. He now hits the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed he’ll likely report back to Triple-A Las Vegas. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Activated from injured list
The Pirates activated Hayes (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Hayes has been sidelined since early May with a back injury but will skip a rehab assignment and go directly back on the Pirates' active roster. The third baseman is slashing a disappointing .240/.322/.318 with just one home run and zero stolen bases this season. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
  • Pirates reinstate Ke’Bryan Hayes off injured list
Pirates reinstated INF Ke’Bryan Hayes off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Hayes is back after missing three weeks with inflammation in his back. The 27-year-old hasn’t been successful in 2024 when health with a .640 OPS, but he was a solid option in 2023 with enough talent to suggest as a speculative add for those who need help in the corner infield. • DJ LeMahieu will hit ninth, play third in return
DJ LeMahieu will hit ninth and play third base in his return from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: LeMahieu will make his season debut after missing exactly two months of the season with a fracture in his right foot. The 35-year-old could have some rust to shake off from such a long absence — even with a lengthy rehab assignment — but hitting ninth will give him a chance to be driven in by the top of the New York lineup. • Chris Taylor playing third base against Mets
Chris Taylor is starting at third base and hitting seventh for the first game of a doubleheader against the Mets on Tuesday.

Advice: Taylor is starting at the hot corner for the first time in 2024. The 33-year-old veteran has been atrocious so far in 2024 with a .101 average and .338 OPS over the first third of the campaign. Enrique Hernandez takes a seat for the first game of the twin-billing. • Slated to bat ninth in return
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that LeMahieu (foot) will start at third base and bat ninth Tuesday versus the Angels in his season debut.

Advice: LeMahieu had appeared in line for leadoff duties with the Yankees before suffering a non-displaced fracture of his right foot shortly before Opening Day. However, Anthony Volpe looks to have a tight grip on the leadoff job now, pushing LeMahieu to the bottom of the batting order for the time being. LeMahieu is slated to be the team's primary third baseman, although he will be given extra off days initially as the Yankees ease him back into action. Rotowire.com Today, 9:59 am
