• Cristian javier undergoes Tommy John surgery
The Astros announced that Cristian Javier underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday.

Advice: Javier will be sidelined into the second half of 2025. The Astros still owe him $52 million from 2025-27, so he will be back with the club once healthy. Rotoworld 1 minute ago

  • Astros confirm Tommy John surgery for Urquidy
José Urquidy underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday, the Astros announced.

Advice: We know Urquidy underwent surgery Wednesday and everyone assumed it was Tommy John, but the Astros didn’t confirm it until today. Urquidy likely will attempt to return next August or September. One imagines the Astros will non-tender him this winter, particularly since he’ll be eligible for free agency after next year anyway. • Diamondbacks demote LHP Joe Jacques
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Joe Jacques to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: The move makes room for Thyago Vieira, who was claimed off waivers Thursday. Jacques spent just one game on Arizona’s active roster and did not get to pitch. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago
  • Rehab assignment extended
Bubic (elbow) had his rehab assignment extended by 10 days Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Advice: While Bubic was nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, Rogers notes that the 10-day extension is an exception for pitchers coming back from Tommy John surgery. Bubic made his eighth rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, throwing four scoreless innings while striking out four. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Urquidy underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Astros had only described Urquidy's surgery as "season-ending" prior to the operation, but it's now likely the 29-year-old righty remains out until the second half of the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. He will finish 2024 with a 5.29 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 63 innings and will enter his final year of arbitration eligibility this offseason. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Kris Bubic (elbow) gets rehab assignment extended
Kris Bubic has had his rehab assignment extended until June 15 as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Advice: That’s time for him to make two more starts. Bubic has thus far made seven starts in the minors, the last two of which have seen him total 7 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Omaha. He does have an option year left, so the Royals could leave him in Triple-A when the rehab assignment expires. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Sent back to Reno
The Diamondbacks optioned Jacques to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Advice: One day after coming up from the minors, Jacques will now return to Triple-A following the arrival of Thyago Vieira, who was claimed off waivers from Baltimore on Thursday. Jacques has allowed seven earned runs in just 6.1 innings since joining the Diamondbacks organization in April, and a return to Arizona isn't likely, barring a significant turnaround. • Clayton Kershaw touches 90 mph in sim game
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) touched 90 mph on the gun during a two-inning simulated game in California on Friday.

Advice: The Dodgers have yet to schedule Kershaw’s first rehab start, but it might not be far off. First, he’ll throw another sim game next week. Kershaw is coming back from November surgery to repair his shoulder capsule and ligaments. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Bullpen on tap
Hall (knee) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The 25-year-old visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles for a second opinion on his sprained left knee Friday and was recommended to receive a PRP injection, but the left-hander will instead follow the initial medical opinion and get back to throwing. Hall made two one-inning rehab appearances in the minors in late May before he tweaked his knee, and he'll likely require at least a few bullpen sessions before being cleared for game action again.
