    • Jordan Montgomery fans seven in win over White Sox
Jordan Montgomery looked sharp in Sunday’s victory over the White Sox, allowing just an unearned run on four hits over his five frames.

Advice: Montgomery piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI groundout off the bat of Andrew Vaughn in the third inning — after a throwing error by Montgomery had allowed him to advance earlier in the inning. The 31-year-old southpaw got a whopping 18 swings and misses on 84 pitches in the game — 10 of those on his changeup alone — while posting a strong CSW of 36 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, he’ll carry a 6.00 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and a 39/21 K/BB ratio (57 innings) into a tough matchup against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 5:16 pm
    • Fans seven in win
Montgomery (5-4) picked up the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Sunday's start was Montgomery's best as a Diamondback, as he tied his season high in strikeouts while yielding no earned runs for the first time this year. The lone run scored while Montgomery was on the mound came in the third inning, when Danny Mendick came around to score after reaching on a throwing error by Montgomery. Montgomery has had a rollercoaster 2024 season, surrendering three or fewer runs in seven of his 11 appearances but giving up six or more runs three times. Overall, the 31-year-old owns a 6.00 ERA with a 39:21 K:BB across 57.0 innings. He's on track to face the Phillies next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 4:43 pm
    • Improving, but iffy for Monday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Bichette is improving in his recovery from a right calf injury, but the skipper declined to reveal whether the shortstop was available off the bench for Sunday's 7-6 win over the Guardians, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. "Hopefully it's not too much longer," Schneider said.

Advice: Bichette missed out on a second consecutive start Sunday due to the injury, and Schneider's comments offered no assurance that the 26-year-old will be back in the lineup Monday versus the Red Sox. Isiah Kiner-Falefa has manned shortstop for the past two games in Bichette's absence, opening up one start apiece for Ernie Clement and Addison Barger at third base. Rotowire.com Today, 3:45 pm

    • Could be back Wednesday
Cole (elbow) could be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game versus the Orioles at Yankee Stadium, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The Yankees have confirmed Nestor Cortes and Luis Gil as their starting pitchers for games Tuesday and Thursday versus Baltimore, but a starter has yet to be made for Wednesday while the club weighs whether to activate Cole for his season debut or to have him make another minor-league rehab start. While shifting his assignment from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Cole delivered a gem in his third rehab outing Friday, striking out 10 over 4.1 innings while allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks. He tossed 70 pitches in the start, so Cole would likely have a slight cap on his workload if he were to rejoin the New York rotation Wednesday. If the Yankees decide to have Cole make one more start in the minors, Cody Poteet would likely get another turn through the big-league rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 3:16 pm

    • Bo Bichette (calf) felt improvement on Sunday
Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters after Sunday’s game that Bo Bichette felt improvement in his injured right calf and may have been available off the bench.

Advice: When asked about his status going forward, Schneider said, “We’ll see how he is tomorrow. Hopefully it’s not much longer.” It sounds like Bichette is going to avoid a trip to the injured list and should return to the Jays’ lineup in another day or two. Rotoworld Today, 2:38 pm

    • Gerrit Cole could start Wednesday against Orioles
Gerrit Cole (elbow) could make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles.

Advice: The Yankees announced their rotation for the series against Baltimore. Kind of. Tuesday’s starter will be Nestor Cortes, and Thursday will be Luis Gil. Wednesday has a TBD by it, and it seems possible — if not probable — that it’ll be Cole returning to the rotation. The 2023 Cy Young winner has looked the part in his rehab starts, and while there could be some precautions taken, there’s every reason to believe he’ll be just as fantasy relevant over these three-plus months of 2024. • Back in lineup as DH
Perez (knee) is in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Perez is battling a right knee sprain, but it's said to be relatively minor and he will tough it out Sunday as the designated hitter. It's uncertain when he may return to catching duties. The team recalled Austin Nola on Saturday and Nola's presence on the roster affords Perez and the Royals some time to get him right before he slots back in behind the plate. • Salvador Perez (knee) back in lineup Sunday
Salvador Perez (knee) is back in the lineup as the designated hitter Sunday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Perez was removed Friday after experiencing discomfort in his right knee, and while the backstop did miss Saturday’s game, he’s feeling well enough to be the designated hitter and hit cleanup against the Dodgers in the final game of the three-game set. Great news for all parties involved. Rotoworld Today, 10:16 am

    • Beginning rehab assignment Tuesday
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that Contreras (forearm) is likely to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with either Triple-A Memphis or Double-A Springfield, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Contreras reached a meaningful milestone in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left forearm by taking batting practice earlier in the weekend, and with the veteran backstop apparently coming out of the workout without any renewed soreness, he looks like he's ready for game action. Because he's been on the shelf since May 8, Contreras could stay on his minor-league rehab assignment throughout the week before potentially returning from the 10-day injured list before the end of June. Once Contreras is activated, he should reclaim the No. 1 catcher's role from Ivan Herrera. Rotowire.com Today, 9:52 am
