    • Locks up eighth save
Alvarado picked up the save Monday against the Mets. He pitched a clean inning with no strikeouts.

Advice: Alvarado collected his first save since May 5 on Monday night, requiring just nine pitches to retire the Mets in the tenth inning. Outside of yielding five runs on Opening Day, the 28-year-old lefty has been a stalwart, firing a 1.06 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 17 innings since then. Alvarado will continue to split saves with the rest of the talented Phillies bullpen but should collect the bulk of opportunities. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:13 pm

    • Struggles in blown save
Diaz blew the save Monday against Philadelphia, allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and a hit batter. He had one strikeout over one inning.

Advice: Diaz looked extremely unsettled Monday night, issuing his first free passes since April 20, ending a streak of eight walk-free innings. Even more indicative of his unsteady control, the Mets closer allowed the tying run to score by beaning Alec Bohm with the bases loaded. Despite the ugly outing Monday, Diaz is cemented as the Mets closer with his ERA standing at 3.24 over 16.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 8:11 pm

    • Edwin Díaz melts down Monday in ugly blown save
Edwin Díaz was charged with two runs in the ninth inning on Monday against the Phillies in a blown save.

Advice: Not great. Díaz was called upon to guard a two-run lead in the final frame and was unable to slam the door. He served up a solo shot to Bryson Stott to kick things off before drilling Alec Bohm with the bases loaded to push across the game-tying run with two outs in the frame. It was his second blown save in seven chances this season. There’s zero chance of Díaz losing his grip on the closing role in New York, but it’s worth noting that this outing was a real mess. • José Alvarado collects eighth save on Monday
José Alvarado tossed a scoreless 10th inning on Monday against the Mets to notch his eighth save of the season.

Advice: Alvarado got the call to guard a one-run lead in the 10th inning after the Phillies finally pulled ahead and needed just nine pitches (seven strikes) to end it. The hard-throwing 28-year-old stopper has converted all eight of his save chances this season to go along with a solid 3.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 16/7 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 innings (19 appearances). • Earns win in extra frame
Romano (1-0) earned the win Monday, walking one and striking out one over two scoreless innings of relief against the Orioles.

Advice: Romano entered a tie game in the ninth, needing just nine pitches to complete the frame, then unofficially saved his own victory after the Blue Jays plated a run in the top of the 10th. It was the 10th appearance of the season for the Toronto closer, who had converted on all six of his save opportunities prior to earning his first victory Monday. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:11 pm

    • Grabs win after Mets walk off
Diaz (1-1) secured the win over Alanta on Sunday, tossing a perfect ninth frame while striking out a batter.

Advice: Diaz entered to begin the ninth with the Mets trailing 3-2 and wound up with the win thanks to a Brandon Nimmo two-run walk off homer in the bottom of the inning. He's bounced back with a save and a win in his last two outings after allowing three runs in his previous four innings. He's also struck out at least one batter in all 15 of his appearances thus far. For the year, Diaz owns a 2.30 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB in 15.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:54 am

    • Untimely struggles
Chapman (0-3) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks across 0.2 innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cubs.

Advice: Chapman entered Sunday's game having turned in five consecutive scoreless appearances, though he had just an 8:5 K:BB in that span. Things fell apart for him in the 10th inning of Sunday's loss, as he allowed a leadoff single and then a solo home run two batters later. For the season, Chapman now has a 4.61 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 13.2 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:08 am
    • Throws off mound
Pepiot (leg) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Sunday, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports.

Advice: Pepiot landed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday after sustaining a lower left leg contusion when he was hit by a line drive in his start against the Mets last Sunday. He noted that he felt good after the throwing session Sunday, and he could return from the IL when first eligible May 21. The right-hander confirmed after the bullpen session that he doesn't expect to need a rehab start in the minors prior to being activated. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:09 am

    • Nails down sixth save
Romano gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his sixth save of the season in a 10-8 win over the Twins.

Advice: The right-hander stayed perfect in save situations on the season, but Saturday's performance was only the fifth time in nine appearances that Romano has avoided getting tagged with a run. His 4.15 ERA and 1.38 WHIP are well off from his usual standards, but his 8:2 K:BB through 8.2 innings isn't far from the mark, and his stuff appears to be fine -- he topped out at 99 mph with his fastball.
