    • CT scan confirms no fracture
Alonso is day-to-day after a CT scan confirmed he didn't suffer a fracture when he was hit by a pitch in the right hand during Wednesday's 10-3 loss to the Dodgers, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.

Advice: X-rays and now a CT scan have both come back negative, as Alonso has managed to avoid a serious injury and is dealing with a bone bruise to his right hand. It's possible he'll still miss a game or two if he remains sore, but the veteran first baseman looks poised to avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:05 am

    • Could be activated next week
Manager Kevin Cash said that Eflin (back) will throw a light bullpen session Thursday and a "ramped-up bullpen session" Sunday before the Rays decide his next steps, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Cash noted that the Rays will wait and see how Eflin feels following Sunday's session, but if his lower-back injury isn't providing any complications, he could be cleared to return from the 15-day injured list next week. When Eflin was placed on the IL on May 20, Cash estimated that the right-hander would need 2-to-4 weeks to make a full recovery, and Eflin currently looks to be tracking toward the short end of that timeline. • Aiming to return Tuesday
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Thursday that Lowe (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham this weekend and hopes to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday versus the Marlins, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Last week, Lowe made his second trip to the IL this season with a right oblique strain. The strain was deemed mild, allowing him to resume baseball activities ahead of this weekend's rehab assignment. If Lowe does indeed return Tuesday, he will have missed just a little more than the minimum 10 days. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:23 am

    • Josh Lowe could return to Rays lineup on Tuesday
Josh Lowe (oblique) will play for Triple-A Durham this weekend as he nears a return.

Advice: The plan is for Lowe to play all weekend with Durham and, if all feels good, he could return to the Tampa Bay lineup on Tuesday against the Marlins. Lowe has now had three setbacks this season with his oblique, but the last imaging he had showed no major issues and both he and the Rays have expressed optimism that he will return next week. • To begin swinging bat
Yoshida (thumb) is set to begin swinging a bat in the upcoming days, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: This is the first real sign that Yoshida is working his way back to playing again. He was placed on the injured list May 1 and spent most of the month shut down from baseball activities. When he does begin swinging, Yoshida will wear a hand guard over the injured thumb. • Hangs on for 16th save
Holmes picked up the save over the Angels on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and one walk.

Advice: Holmes entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and surrendered a single and a walk in the first two at-bats before getting Willie Calhoun to ground into a double play. The reliever was then able to retire Logan O'Hoppe on just two pitches to record his 16th save of the season, which ties him with Robert Suarez for third in the major leagues. Holmes has now allowed multiple baserunners in four of his last five appearances and hasn't recorded a strikeout in either of his last two outings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:31 am
    • Alex Verdugo homers in win over Angels
Alex Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Despite the Yankees putting five men on base through three frames, they didn’t bring a run in to score until Verdugo’s solo blast off Tyler Anderson to lead off the fourth inning. It was one of only two runs the team would score in Wednesday’s victory. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .260/.321/.439 with eight homers and 29 RBI across 221 plate appearances. • Clay Holmes locks down 16th save Wednesday
Clay Holmes pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record a save against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: Holmes was called on in the ninth to close it out with a one-run lead over the Angels. He started the inning with a single and a walk before getting two outs on a ground ball double play. Holmes then got Logan O’Hoppe to ground out to end the game with his 16th save. • X-rays negative
X-rays on Alonso's right hand came back negative Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Mets won't be able to confirm whether or not Alonso avoided a fracture until the results of his CT scan come back Thursday, but a clean X-ray is certainly an encouraging sign. The 29-year-old remains day-to-day after getting hit in the hand by a 93-mph fastball during Wednesday's contest. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:02 pm
