    • Rodon hit hard again, allows eight runs in loss
      Carlos Rodon allowed eight runs in five innings and took the loss against the Blue Jays on Thursday.



      Advice: Rodon gave up 10 hits, walked one and struck out eight. That Rodon was able to complete five innings and strike out eight batters were positives, but if fantasy managers weren’t concerned about him before this start, they certainly are now. Rodon has allowed at least five runs in each of his last three starts and seen his ERA rise from 2.93 to 4.42. Rodon isn’t a big time strikeout pitcher like he was in his pre-Yankees career. His strikeout percentage is 23 percent this year compared to his 33 percent strikeout percentage with the Giants in 2022. Rodon had a 3.17 xFIP in 2021 with the White Sox and 2.91 xFIP in 2022 before his disaster 5.30 xFIP in his first year with the Yankees last year. His 4.34 xFIP this year is an improvement, but was also a sign that his ERA wasn’t going to remain below 3.00. This version of Rodon is also easier to hit as his 0.88 HR/9 in 2021 and 0.61 HR/9 in 2022 have turned into a 2.10 HR/9 in 2023 and a 1.54 HR/9 this year with the Yankees. There’s no way around the fact that Rodon’s $162 million pact with New York has become one of the biggest bust signings in the franchise’s long free agent history. The 31-year-old left-hander is set to face the Reds at home next week, but fantasy managers have to think about sending him to the bench if he wasn’t there already.

      Correa (thumb) anticipates that he will be in the lineup Friday against the Mariners, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

      Advice: Correa was hit in the hand by a pitch Thursday in the seventh inning and immediately left the game. X-rays came back clean, and he told reporters after the game that he's confident he'll be in the lineup to start the Twins' series against Seattle on Friday.       Advice: Correa immediately made his way into the Twins' clubhouse after getting hit in the arm by a pitch during the seventh inning, but it appears he managed to escape the incident with minimal damage. The team has officially labeled his injury a right wrist contusion, and he is viewed as day-to-day.       Advice: It’s the best-case scenario outcome for Correa after he was drilled on the right forearm by a 94-mph fastball during Thursday’s blowout against the Diamondbacks. The 29-year-old shortstop is officially day-to-day with a right wrist contusion. It’s still possible he could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list in a few days, if the pain and swelling don’t subside.       Carlos Correa left Thursday’s game against the Diamondbacks after being hit by a pitch on the right forearm.

      Advice: This one didn’t look good at all. Correa took a 94-mph fastball off his right forearm during the seventh inning of Thursday’s blowout in Arizona. He immediately left the contest shaking his head and holding that arm in a great deal of pain. The 29-year-old shortstop will head for additional evaluation and X-rays to determine the extent of the damage.     • Brett Baty hits two HRs in Triple-A on Wednesday
      Brett Baty went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

      Advice: Baty is now 23-for-65 (.354 batting average) with a 1.188 OPS and eight home runs since being demoted on May 31. While Mark Vientos has emerged as the team’s top third baseman, Baty has been taking reps at second base and could prove a viable pivot option for the Mets if Jeff McNeil continues to struggle. Nothing is imminent and Baty has hit Triple-A pitching well before, but if he can showcase solid defense at second base, he could become a real option. Rotoworld Today, 6:01 am

    • Nabs win despite poor control
      Manaea (5-3) earned the win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing two hits and issuing five walks while striking out three batters over five scoreless innings.

      Advice: Manaea was impressive in yielding just two hits -- both singles -- but allowed traffic in all but one of his five frames due to his struggle to throw strikes. The left-hander issued a season-high five free passes, but the Yankees bailed him out by grounding into three double plays. Manaea has been unable to pitch into the sixth inning in each of his past seven starts, though his shortish outing Wednesday was likely due to a fifth-inning rain delay after which he did not return.       Sean Manaea pitched five innings before a long rain delay on Wednesday against the Yankees. He allowed just two hits and no runs while walking five and punching out three in a win.

      Advice: This was almost the night Manaea would finally complete six innings for the first time since May 13th. Almost, that is, until a massive thunderstorm held this game up for almost two hours when he had thrown 77 pitches through five innings.
