    • Back from IL
The Dodgers reinstated Phillips (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Phillips was forced onto the injured list May 5 after suffering a right hamstring strain. He's since thrown 1.2 innings of shutout ball while striking out three batters and walking none during a rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The 29-year-old right-hander should immediately retain his spot as the Dodgers' closer -- a role he thrived in prior to getting injured, giving up just one earned run in 13.2 frames while collecting eight saves. Elieser Hernandez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
    • Elects free agency
Bowman will enter free agency after clearing waivers Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: After being acquired by the Twins on May 2, Bowman struggled in his four outings with the Diamondbacks, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He was designated for assignment Sunday, and the 33-year-old will hit the open market and look to join a team in need of right-handed depth out of the bullpen. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago
    • Dodgers activate Evan Phillips from 15-day IL
Dodgers activated RHP Evan Phillips from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: The 29-year-old closer finally returns to the Dodgers’ bullpen after landing on the injured list with a hamstring strain. While Daniel Hudson and Blake Treinen did a nice job in his absence, expect Phillips to jump right into the team’s ninth-inning role. On the season, he holds a minuscule 0.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 17/4 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings of work while recording eight saves. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago
    • Strikes out seven Friday
Assad didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Both of the runs charged to Assad came in the fourth inning when the Reds strung together three straight singles. Still, it was a positive effort for Assad overall after he'd given up seven runs (six earned) over 9.2 innings in his previous two outings, though he now has seven or more strikeouts in three of his last four starts. Overall, the 26-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 61:26 K:BB through 63.1 innings this season. Assad's currently in line for a rematch with Cincinnati on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 2:51 pm

    • Lucas Erceg diagnosed with mild forearm strain
Athletics’ skipper Mark Kotsay told reporters on Friday that Lucas Erceg is dealing with a mild forearm strain.

Advice: Kotsay also said that they expect Erceg to resume throwing “sooner than later” and noted that they feel like they dodged something much worse. It sounds like he’ll be shelved for a couple of weeks, but should be able to ramp back up quickly and rejoin the A’s bullpen before the month of June is through. Rotoworld Today, 2:45 pm

    • Set for rehab appearance Friday
Miller (elbow) will make his second rehab appearance with Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: Miller began his rehab assignment Tuesday, when he pitched one scoreless inning while giving up one hit and one walk. The 33-year-old right-hander continues to work his way through inflammation in his right ulnar nerve that landed him on the 15-day IL on May 13. How Miller fares Friday will determine whether he needs another rehab outing or can rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 2:44 pm
    • Alexis Díaz nearly blows save versus Cubs
Alexis Díaz escaped with his 11th save after giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Díaz got lucky when a pitch that hit both Nick Madigal’s hand and the knob of his bat was ruled a foul ball and was then fortunate again when Madrigal, as the tying run, was thrown out at home plate trying to score on Seiya Suzuki’s double. Díaz has a 5.91 ERA this season. He’s walked 15 and hit three batters in 21 1/3 innings. He’s simply not worthy of trust right now, but since he’s blown only two saves and the Reds don’t have anyone else they’re really wanting to turn to, he’ll probably remain in the closer’s role for now. Lucas Sims is likely still second in line, even if Fernando Cruz is the more interesting reliever these days. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm
    • Javier Assad strikes out seven in no-decision
Javier Assad wasn’t involved in the decision after allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings Friday against the Reds.

Advice: Assad struck out seven and kept the ball in the yard today after allowing two homers in each of his previous two starts. He left with a one-run lead in the sixth, but that disappeared in the seventh. He’ll face the Reds again in his next start, though it will be in Cincinnati this time. While Assad is worth using most of the time in mixed leagues right now, that’s not a great play, especially since he’s due to be matched up with Hunter Greene. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

    • Héctor Neris allows run in ninth
Brought in with the Cubs down one in the top of the ninth, Héctor Neris gave up a run and two hits Friday against the Reds.

Advice: It’s the second straight outing in which Neris has allowed a run, and it proved to be a pretty big run after the Cubs scored once in the bottom of the ninth. Neris’s peripherals are still awful — he has a 16/15 K/BB in 20 innings — but so far, his only two blown saves haven’t cost the Cubs (the team won both games). He’ll probably need a costly blown save before the Cubs turn things over to Mark Leiter Jr. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm
