Gausman's eight strikeouts were his highest total this season, and he boasted a 48 percent whiff rate on his splitter. The righty's velocity remains down, but he's allowed just two earned runs over his last four starts and finally piled up some strikeouts in this one.     Danny Jansen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI on Saturday against the Nationals.

    Advice: Jansen is off to a hot start at the plate since he was activated from the injured list on April 16. He drove in a run with a double in the first inning. He later drew a walk in the sixth and a knocked a single in the eighth to get on base for Kevin Kiermaier, who drove in two with a two-run homer.     Advice: Irvin was put in a bad spot by the infield defense in the first inning. George Springer would reach on an error to lead off the game. A walk and a base hit would plate Springer for the first run before two more runs scored on a throwing error that would have gotten Irvin out of the frame. He would end the first at 35 pitches with four unearned runs in. He did a great job settling in, tossing four more scoreless innings before his day was done at 107 pitches. He struck out four.     Heyward (back) took batting practice on the field prior to Saturday's game against Atlanta, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

    Advice: Hewyard was cleared to begin baseball activities Friday, and Saturday marks the first time he has taken batting practice since landing on the injured list April 3.     Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that Blake Treinen (lung) will be activated from the injured list on Sunday.

    Advice: Roberts also said that he won’t be easing Treinen back into action and that he won’t hesitate to use him in high-leverage situations from the get-go. The 35-year-old right-hander should provide a major boost to the back end of the Dodgers’ bullpen, but it’s unlikely that he takes too many save chances away from Evan Phillips. He delivered just that, knocking a single to left field to end the game.     David Bednar tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout to earn the win against the Rockies on Saturday.

    Advice: Bender entered in the top of the ninth with the game scoreless. He tossed a clean frame, striking out one batter to send it tied to the bottom of the ninth.
