  • Report: Orioles sign right-hander Julio Teheran
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Orioles have signed right-hander Julio Teheran to a minor-league contract.

Advice: As Heyman notes in his post, the Orioles are in need of starting pitching help, and the hope is Teheran can provide some. This is the second time he’s joined the Baltimore organization, as he also signed a minor-league contract with the O’s in February before opting out when he didn’t make the team out of spring training. The right-hander was awful in Triple-A Iowa before he opted out of his contract with the Cubs as seen in an 8.82 ERA and 1.81 WHIP oer 32 2/3 innings of work. Assuming he makes starts with Baltimore there’ll be chances for wins, but he’s not exactly someone you can count on to help in other categories. Rotoworld Today, 8:36 am
  • Links up with Baltimore
Teheran agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: The veteran right-hander opted out of his minor-league deal with the Cubs over the weekend and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Teheran has just one appearance in the big leagues this season and has struggled to an 8.82 ERA over eight starts at the Triple-A level. The Orioles are in dire need of rotation depth due to Tyler Wells (elbow) and John Means (elbow) both recently being ruled out for the season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:36 am
  • Getting another start Tuesday
Peterson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Nationals in Washington, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: With a pair of off days Thursday and Friday ahead of their two-game series versus the Phillies in London this weekend, the Mets opted to condense their rotation from six to five men. Peterson ended up making the cut, as the Mets instead optioned rookie Christian Scott to Triple-A Syracuse last weekend. After returning from the 60-day injured list last week, Peterson drew a tough matchup in the Dodgers for his 2024 Mets debut, but he held his own against one of baseball's best offenses, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings. He'll get a more favorable draw Tuesday, facing off against a Nationals offense that ranks 27th in the majors with an 81 wRC+ versus left-handed pitching for the season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:14 am
  • Groome, three others suspended by MLB for betting
MLB suspended LHP Jay Groome one year for violating Major League Baseball’s betting policy.

Advice: Groome was suspended along with Athletics right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly, Diamondbacks left-hander Andrew Saalfrank, and Phillies infielder Jose Rodriguez for one year. The four players were found guilty of betting on the sport, but they weren’t on the roster or injured list of the team they bet on. That was not the case of Tucupita Marcano, who was banned for life for getting over $87,000 on that situation. Rotoworld Today, 7:38 am
  • Suspended by MLB
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Groome (undisclosed) has been suspended one year for violating the league's gambling policy, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Advice: MLB's investigation revealed that Groome made 24 bets on the Red Sox's major-league club while he was assigned to their High-A affiliate in Greenville. He didn't appear in any of the games on which he bet and MLB has determined that the outcomes of the games weren't compromised. Groome is currently on Triple-A El Paso's 7-day injured list due to an undisclosed issue. Rotowire.com Today, 7:37 am
  • Collects first hold
Houser gave up two hits and two walks over 2.1 scoreless relief innings Monday to record his first hold of the season in Monday's win over the Nationals. He failed to strike out a batter.

Advice: It was far from a dominant performance, but Houser was able to protect an 8-5 lead after taking the ball from Tylor Megill to begin the sixth inning. Houser has adjusted well to a long-relief role so far, allowing two earned runs in 12.1 innings over five appearances, but his 5:7 K:BB suggests his luck won't last. Monday's hold was just the second of his career, with the other coming back in 2019 when he filled a similar swingman role with the Brewers. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am
  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Advice: Basso has made two scoreless relief appearances for the Athletics this season. The left-hander has been used as a starter during his time with Las Vegas and will likely get stretched back out in its rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 6:49 am
  • Sharp in win
Rodriguez (6-2) picked up the win Monday against Toronto, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and zero walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings.

Advice: The only earned run allowed by Rodriguez was a solo home run by Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old set a new season-best with 6.2 innings pitched Monday, turning in his fifth quality start of the season. Rodriguez has found his groove over his past five starts -- in that span, the right-hander owns a 2.16 ERA and 31:12 K:BB in 29.1 innings. Rodriguez will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently scheduled for this weekend in Tampa. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:43 pm
  • Yields three home runs
Gausman (4-4) took the loss Monday against Baltimore, allowing six earned runs on six hits and one walk in 6.1 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Gausman gave up three home runs Monday after allowing just two over his past nine starts. The 33-year-old had notched three-consecutive quality starts prior to Monday's setback, but he has been unable to find his footing this season. Through 60.2 innings, Gasuman holds a 4.60 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP, both of which are his worst since 2019. The right-hander will look to rebound in his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Oakland. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:28 pm
