    • Dazzles in first rehab outing
Williams (back) struck out all three batters he faced in a perfect inning during his rehab appearance Sunday with High-A Wisconsin.

Advice: Williams has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a pair of stress fractures in his back, but he didn't exhibit any signs of rust in his first game action of 2024. He needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side and generated four swings-and-misses during his brief time on the mound. The Brewers may have Williams shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Biloxi or Triple-A Nashville for a tougher test following the All-Star break, but the right-hander may not require too many more tune-up outings in the minors if he continues to look as sharp as he did Sunday. Williams should eventually supplant Trevor Megill as the Brewers' preferred option to close games once he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:31 pm
    • Hurting but won't miss start
Suarez won't be available for Tuesday's All-Star Game while he recovers from back tightness, but the Phillies expect him to be available to make his first start of the second half July 22 or 23 in Minnesota, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Suarez hasn't been forced to miss any time due to the back issue and likely would have been available to start during the upcoming week if the Phillies needed him, but he'll instead use the All-Star break to heal up while he's less than 100 percent healthy. Though he's in the midst of a career-best season and was looking forward to pitching in his first Midsummer Classic, Suarez clearly hasn't been at his best of late, as he has struggled to an 8.62 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 15.2 innings over his last three starts, two of which have come against sub-.500 clubs in the Marlins and Athletics. Suarez won't travel to Arlington, Texas, for the All-Star Game and will instead remain in Philadelphia to continue throwing. Zack Wheeler is also tending to a back issue and will skip the All-Star Game, but both he and Suarez are expected to take the hill in some order when the Phillies next require fourth and fifth starters July 22 and 23. • Kirby Yates earns stressful save
Kirby Yates allowed a hit, a walk, and a run on Sunday against the Astros before nailing down the save.

Advice: Yates did not make this one easy. He walked the lead-off man Jon Singleton before Jeremy Peña smacked a single to bring the tying run to the plane. He worked out of the jam though, as he has all year, to grab his 16th save of the season to go along with a 1.05 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:52 pm

    • Williams (back) Ks three in first rehab outing
Devin Williams (back) struck out the side in his first rehab appearance Sunday with High-A Wisconsin.

Advice: Like he never left. Returning from stress fractures in his back, Williams threw nine out of his 14 pitches for strikes as he made quick work of the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Brewers will almost certainly want him to make a handful of rehab appearances, but it shouldn’t be much longer before he returns to the late-inning mix. Rotoworld Sunday, 12:44 pm
    • Cherington: Jones (lat) to begin throwing after AS break
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that Jared Jones (lat) is expected to begin throwing shortly after the All-Star break.

Advice: Jones is currently in Florida as he rehabs from a Grade 2 lat strain. He’ll ramp up activities at the club’s complex in Bradenton before progressing to game action. The Pirates are hopeful he’ll return at some point in August, but he has a ways to go. Rotoworld Sunday, 11:01 am

    • Picks up 15th save
Yates walked one and struck out one in a scoreless 10th inning Saturday to record his 15th save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Astros.

Advice: The 37-year-old right-hander continued his resurgent campaign. Yates has yet to blow a save this season, and he hasn't been tagged for an earned run in 10 straight appearances, posting a 0.80 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB across 10 innings over that stretch. His first-half performance has earned Yates his second career All-Star Game berth -- the other came back in 2019 with the Padres, when he led the majors with 41 saves. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:42 am

    • Could be activated Sunday
Garcia (elbow) will join the Blue Jays ahead of Sunday's game in Arizona and could be activated from the 15-day injured list for the series finale with the Diamondbacks, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Garcia had his second rehab appearance pushed back twice due to neck stiffness, but he was able to pitch two-thirds of an inning Friday with Triple-A Buffalo. The 33-year-old has been shelved since June 17 due to right elbow ulnar neuritis. With Jordan Romano (elbow) likely out until September, Garcia could enter the second half of the season as the Blue Jays' closer. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:26 pm

    • Yimi Garcia (neck) could be activated on Sunday
Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters on Saturday that Yimi Garcia (neck) is on his way to join the team in Arizona.

Advice: It sounds like the 33-year-old right-hander could be activated from the injured list prior to Sunday’s first half finale. Prior to landing on the injured list with a nerve issue in mid-June, Garcia had registered a 2.57 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 28 innings, Rotoworld Saturday, 5:13 pm

    • Kirby Yates secures 15th save against Astros
Kirby Yates fired a scoreless 10th to get a save for the Rangers against the Astros on Saturday.

Advice: Many things have gone wrong for the Texas Rangers as they try and repeat as World Series winners. Kirby Yates is not one of them. The 37-year-old needed just five pitches to get through the outing, and while he was charged with an intentional walk, he was able to pick up a strikeout while registering his 15th save and lowering his ERA to a sensational 0.81.
