    • Struggles again in loss
Suarez (10-4) took the loss against the Athletics on Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Suarez allowed three two-out runs in a rough third inning and then yielded another run in the fifth. While the Phillies offense didn't help much Friday, he has been stuck on 10 wins since June 8 and has surrendered 16 earned runs over his past three outings. The first-time All-Star still owns an impressive 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 112:26 K:BB this season and will look to hit the reset button over the break. Rotowire.com Friday, 6:32 pm

    • Paul Skenes to start All-Star Game for NL
Paul Skenes will start for the National League in next week’s MLB All-Star Game.

Advice: Now it’s official. Skenes will become the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo in 1995. He has a 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 11 starts this year with Pittsburgh. Rotoworld Friday, 10:17 am

    • Report: Skenes could start All-Star Game
Every indication is pointing towards RHP Paul Skenes starting the All-Star Game for the National League, according to Bob Nightengale.

Advice: The starting pitchers won’t be announced until Monday, but National League manager Torey Lovullo noted that Skenes has been an unbelievable addition to and created a lot of interest in the league. Skenes would be the first rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo in 1995. Rotoworld Friday, 7:16 am

    • Shuts down Oakland's offense
Houck (8-6) earned the win over the Athletics on Thursday, allowing two hits and issuing three walks while striking out six batters over six scoreless innings.

Advice: The A's managed just two hits (both singles) off Houck and didn't get a runner to second base until the sixth frame. Houck was pulled after that inning with 103 pitches and having recorded his 14th quality start of the campaign -- tied for fourth-most in the majors. The right-hander also ranks fifth among qualified pitchers with a 2.54 ERA and 13th with a 1.03 WHIP. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:58 pm

    • Impressive again Thursday
Steele (2-3) earned the win over Baltimore on Thursday, pitching seven scoreless innings during which he gave up three hits and issued no walks while striking out four batters.

Advice: Steele shut down a potent Orioles lineup, retiring the first 11 batters he faced and allowing just three baserunners (all on doubles) overall. The left-hander couldn't get into the win column over his first 12 starts but has now notched consecutive victories, allowing just one run over 16 innings while posting an 11:2 K:BB during that stretch. Steele's excellence extends further than that -- he's posted seven straight quality starts, registering a 1.65 ERA and 45:7 K:BB across 49 frames over that span. • Houck shuts down A’s, gets eight win on Thursday
Tanner Houck threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Red Sox’ 7-0 victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Houck gave up two hits, walked three and struck out six. The win was his eighth of the season. Houck looked sharp in his last start before the all-star game, where he’ll represent the Red Sox and the American League. He lowered his ERA to 2.54 on the season.

    • Justin Steele fires seven scoreless in win vs. O’s
Justin Steele threw seven shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Orioles.

Advice: Steele gave up three hits, walked none and struck out four. After not getting a single win in his first 12 starts, he’s won his last two starts. Steele needed just 70 pitches to get through seven shutout innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.71 on the season. Steele appears to be rounding into the form we saw last season when he was top five in the National League Cy Young Award balloting. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:57 pm

    • Returns in stride
Flaherty (6-5) picked up the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings against the Guardians. He struck out four.

Advice: Flaherty, who had not pitched since June 27 due to lingering back issues, received plenty of run support while holding the Guardians' lineup in check, save for a solo homer in the third by Bo Naylor. Flaherty managed 83 pitches through six innings and was staked with a 10-1 lead by the time he was replaced. It was the fifth time in six starts Flaherty has allowed no more than one run, with the lone exception coming in his previous start, which immediately preceded his two-week hiatus. Flaherty has been a model of consistency in his first year in Detroit, never completing a full seven innings yet also never completing fewer than five through 16 starts this season. Through 95 innings, he's recorded 119 strikeouts to go along with a 3.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:29 pm
    • Twirls seven no-hit innings
Skenes (6-0) picked up the win Thursday against Milwaukee, allowing no hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch with 11 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings.

Advice: Skenes' excellent rookie season got even better Tuesday, as he tied his career high in strikeouts and logged his second hitless start. He finished the outing by retiring 16 consecutive batters and allowed a baserunner in only the second inning. The 22-year-old is undefeated through 11 appearances and has generated a quality start in nine of his last 10 outings. Skenes will enter the All-Star break with a 1.91 ERA and 89 strikeouts across 66.1 innings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:06 pm
