• Closes out Friday's game
Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Diaz had given up five runs over 1.1 innings across his last two outings, which came in non-save situations. This was his first save since April 27, and he's now 7-for-8 in save chances this season. A couple of implosions have wreaked havoc on Diaz's ratios -- he's at a 6.08 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB through 13.1 innings, but he's been scored upon in four of his 14 appearances. His walk rate is high, but it hasn't cost him the closer job yet. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:01 pm
  • Earns second win
Abbott (2-4) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants.

Advice: Abbott gave up a solo home run to Thairo Estrada in the first inning and an RBI single to Tyler Fitzgerald in the second. After that, Abbott was able to settle in to earn his first win in five starts. The two strikeouts were a season low, but he's walked just one batter over his last three outings combined, though he's also given up five homers in that span. The 24-year-old is now at a 3.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB over 43 innings across eight starts this season. Abbott is projected to make his next start on the road in Arizona. • Blows save, takes loss
Estevez (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Friday against Kansas City. He allowed two runs on three hits and no walks with one strikeout over one inning.

Advice: Estevez allowed a lead-taking, two-run homer to Adam Frazier in the ninth inning to blow his third save on the year. Oddly, the Angels closer has yet to walk a batter this season, but he has allowed three homers over 11.2 innings, leading to a 6.17 ERA. Despite the ugly ERA, Estevez remains securely planted in the Angels closer seat. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm
  • Tallies first save
Schreiber picked up the save Friday against the Angels. He pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit with no strikeouts.

Advice: Schreiber collected his first save season and tenth of his career Friday night. He looked steady, allowing a one-out double to Matt Thaiss before swiftly retiring the next two batters on grounders. James McArthur, the typical Royals closer, worked back-to-back nights on Tuesday and Wednesday, so manager Matt Quatraro could have been given him extra rest Friday night. However, McArthur also blew two saves this week, so keep an eye on the bullpen situation in Kansas City to see if Schreiber picks up more save opportunities. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:53 pm
  • Fans seven in no-decision
Marsh did not factor into the decision Friday against the Angels, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Marsh (elbow) looked sharp in his return from the injured list Friday night, tossing a formidable 85 pitches. The Kansas City right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.53 overall with his effort against the Angels. He also stayed hot after throwing 10 shutout innings in his two starts before the injured list stint. Marsh is scheduled to make his next start against the Mariners on the road. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:50 pm
  • Díaz picks up seventh save against Giants
Alexis Díaz hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Díaz did allow a walk, but he didn’t give up a hit while striking out two, and lowered his ERA to 6.08 in the process. That ERA is less-than-ideal, but keep in mind that it’s mostly from some early scuffles. Díaz should be a fine closing option for the remainder of 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:49 pm
  • Logan Webb works seven, allows two in loss to Reds
Logan Webb gave up three runs — two earned — while working seven innings in a loss Friday to the Reds.

Advice: Webb was much better than his middling start Sunday against the Phillies, but unfortunately it does result in another loss for the 27-year-old. The right-hander gave up eight hits with two walks, and he struck out six. A solid effort, and it lowers his ERA to 3.38 on the season. The Dodgers come next for Webb. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:49 pm
  • Andrew Abbott goes five, gives up two vs. Giants
Andrew Abbott surrendered two runs over five innings in a win Friday against the Giants.

Advice: Abbott didn’t have his best swing-and-miss stuff, as he struck out only two while throwing 88 pitches. He didn’t issue a walk, however, and after giving up runs in the first and second inning, he settled down quite nicely. The southpaw sees his ERA tick up slightly from 3.32 to 3.35, but all things considered, this was a good outing for Abbott. He’ll face the D-Backs next week in Arizona. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:49 pm
  • Solid in no-decision
Canning did not factor into the decision Friday against Kansas City, allowing three hits and two walks over 5.2 shutout innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Canning produced his first scoreless start of the season Friday night as he held the Royals in check over his 90 pitches. The 28-year-old has been solid over his last five starts, tossing a 3.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB overing 27 innings. Canning is slated to face a struggling Cardinals offense at home in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:48 pm
