    • Dane Myers batting cleanup for Marlins on Friday
Dane Myers is starting in right field and batting cleanup for the Marlins on Friday night against the Athletics.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder has impressed in his limited action since joining the Marlins, going 5-for-11 (.455) with three runs scored, five RBI and a stolen base. It looks like manager Skip Schumaker has rewarded that performance with a premium spot in the batting order. If it sticks through the weekend, he could be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues. • Set for rehab assignment Friday
Thomas (hamstring) will start as the designated hitter for Triple-A Reno on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Thomas has been progressing through a left hamstring strain he sustained against the Rockies on March 31. Friday's stint with Triple-A Reno will be Thomas' first rehab assignment, and he will play in center field over the weekend. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo hinted Friday that Thomas could return from the 10-day IL as soon as Tuesday, per Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Getting second opinion
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Yoshida will get a second opinion on his strained left thumb, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Cora previously said Thursday that Yoshida may need to undergo surgery on his thumb after straining it during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the 30-year-old will wait to hear from another doctor before determining the best course of action. Yoshida has slashed .275/.348/.388 with 11 RBI across 89 plate appearances this season, and an update on his status should be available within the next several days. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago
    • Mike Trout undergoes successful knee surgery
Mike Trout underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair the meniscus tear in his left knee.

Advice: Officially, Trout underwent a partial medial meniscectomy. While there’s still no official timetable for his return, the Angels remain optimistic that he’ll be able to return to the lineup at some point during the 2024 season. Unfortunately, that leaves fantasy managers in leagues without injured list spots having to carry a zero on the bench for an indefinite amount of time, or risk the pain of throwing him back into the free agent pool and not being able to reacquire him when/if he does return. • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld Today, 2:52 pm

    • Set to play in outfield Friday
Carlson (shoulder) will play nine innings in the field for Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Carlson has started as the designated hitter in two of his last three games with Memphis, though he did start in center field Wednesday. He'll reprise that role Friday against Triple-A Charlotte and will attempt to stay in the outfield for the entire game. In his last outing with Memphis on Thursday, Carlson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Rotowire.com Today, 2:42 pm

    • Begins assignment Friday
Gonzalez (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: After a slower-than-expected recovery from a left wrist sprain, Gonzalez will now begin the final step of his rehab process. The Red Sox haven't specified exactly how long they plan on keeping the 27-year-old infielder in the minors, but he shouldn't require too long of an assignment if everything goes smoothly. • Pirates option slumping Henry Davis to Triple-A
Pirates optioned C/OF Henry Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The 24-year-old former top overall pick opened the season as the Pirates’ starting catcher, but stumbled to a miserable .162/.280/.206 slash line with zero homers, four RBI, zero stolen bases and a 29/11 K/BB ratio over 83 plate appearances. Getting back into a rhythm at Triple-A and beating up on minor league pitching should help to restore his confidence before the Pirates bring him back up. Yasmani Grandal was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

    • Receiving Friday off
Langford is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Langford started the previous 15 games and will receive a day to reset after he posted a .542 OPS during that stretch. Travis Jankowski will bat eighth as the designated hitter Friday for Texas. Rotowire.com Today, 2:29 pm
