    • Set for bullpen session
Cole (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year. • Kyle Hendricks sharp in Double-A rehab start
Kyle Hendricks (back) struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings on Thursday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Tennessee.

Advice: Hendricks threw 70 pitches (52 strikes) in this one and might be ready to rejoin Chicago’s starting rotation next week without another rehab outing. The 34-year-old righty landed on the injured list in late April with a relatively minor lower back issue. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago
    • Moved to 60-day IL
The Diamondbacks transferred Kelly (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Advice: Kelly was placed on the 15-day IL on April 23 after sustaining a teres major strain in his right shoulder. Due to his transfer to the 60-day IL, Kelly will be on the shelf until at least the first week of July, and his rehab progress over the next few weeks will determine whether the right-hander will need more time beyond that window. Kelly started the season with a 2-0 record, 2.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 24.2 innings through four starts. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago
    • Report: Gerrit Cole targeting mid-June return
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports Gerrit Cole (elbow) is now targeting a mid-June return.

Advice: Heyman adds that Cole is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Saturday as he works his way back from nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The 33-year-old fantasy ace should progress to facing hitters in the coming weeks before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. He was originally aiming for a late-May return, but it sounds like the Yankees don’t want to rush him back and risk a setback. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
    • Back down to Triple-A
Walston was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Advice: It was a brief stint for Walston, who was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. He threw for 3.2 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five. The move corresponds with Arizona acquiring right-hander Matt Bowman from the Twins on Thursday, while Merrill Kelly (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago
    • D-backs option Blake Walston to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Blake Walston to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Walston made his big-league debut earlier this week, allowing two runs over three innings with five strikeouts and four walks over 3 2/3 innings in relief against the Dodgers. The 22-year-old rookie southpaw heads back to the minors for now, but should be back up at some point in the near future. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago
    • D-backs transfer Merrill Kelly to 60-day IL
Diamondbacks transferred RHP Merrill Kelly to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The procedural move opens up a spot on Arizona’s 40-man roster. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander is facing a lengthy absence after landing on the shelf last week with a right shoulder strain. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
    • Julio Urías pleads no contest to misdemeanor
Julio Urías pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge earlier this week.

Advice: Urías will be placed on 36 months probation. He must also complete 30 days of community service, complete a year-long domestic violence counseling program, pay a fee to a domestic violence fund, pay restitution to the victim and abide by a protective order. He’s also forbidden from possessing any weapons. With the criminal proceedings concluded, Major League Baseball will presumably conclude its own investigation into the matter. The 27-year-old left-hander has been on administrative leave since last September and is currently a free agent. He will likely become the first player in league history to receive multiple suspensions under the joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. It’s extremely unlikely he’ll ever pitch in the majors ever again. Rotoworld Today, 3:53 pm
    • Plays catch Wednesday
Manager Brandon Hyde said Wells (elbow) played catch Wednesday and will be sent in for additional testing, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hyde didn't specify whether Wells' upcoming tests were part of a pre-planned arrangement, or if the tests were ordered up because he didn't respond as well to playing catch as expected. Either way, Wells' status will be worth tracking in the days to come as he builds his way back up from right elbow inflammation. Wells is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list Friday, but his return shouldn't be viewed as imminent, considering that he hasn't resumed throwing off a mound since being deactivated.
