• Gregory Soto hangs on for save Wednesday vs. Halos
Gregory Soto tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Angels to net his second save of the season.

Advice: Soto got the call to guard a one-run lead in the final frame after José Alvarado faced the middle of Los Angeles’ lineup in the previous frame. He gave up back-to-back one-out singles to Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel before striking out Jo Adell and retiring Taylor Ward to extinguish the threat. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago
  • Zack Wheeler collects win over Angels on Wednesday
Zack Wheeler struck out six and yielded one run over five innings on Wednesday in a win over the Angels.

Advice: Wheeler did what he does best out in Los Angeles, pounding the strike zone and limiting hard contact against an injury-depleted Angels lineup. The 33-year-old fantasy ace threw 67 of 106 pitches for strikes and allowed just five batted balls with an exit velocity in excess of 95 mph. A second-inning solo shot from veteran utility specialist Ehire Adrianza represented the lone tally against him over five frames. He’s allowed just one run over 18 1/3 innings in his last three starts since April 20. He’ll bring a sparkling 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 52/12 K/BB ratio across 42 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Getting Wednesday off
Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Naylor started at catcher in each of the past three games, so he's presumably just getting a rest day Wednesday. David Fry will get the nod behind the plate in Naylor's place. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Patrick Sandoval spins 10-strikeout gem in loss
Patrick Sandoval recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts and surrendered two runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Sandoval has always shown flashes of potential, but has never really put it all together for Los Angeles, and fantasy managers, over the last few years. He generated just 10 swinging strikes in this outing, but was able to consistently fill up the zone, throwing 63 of 102 pitches for strikes over five frames. A two-run single by Kyle Schwarber in the second inning accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. It was his first double-digit strikeout performance since July 9, 2022. The 27-year-old southpaw will bring an inflated 5.91 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 38/16 K/BB ratio across 32 innings (seven starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Pirates. • Designated for assignment
The Red Sox designated Gutierrez for assignment Wednesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Gutierrez will lose his spot on the 40-man roster to create space for Dominic Smith, who signed a major-league deal with the Red Sox on Wednesday. The 28-year-old righty owns a 9.28 ERA and 2.16 WHIP across 10.2 innings in Triple-A this season, and he will likely pass through waivers unclaimed. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Placed on injured list
The Red Sox placed Yoshida on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left thumb strain, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: MRI results revealed a strain in Yoshida's left thumb after he jammed his hand during Sunday's game against the Cubs, and there is no telling whether or not the 30-year-old outfielder will be able to return when eligible May 10. The newly-signed Dominic Smith will take Yoshida's place on the active roster. Rotowire.com 31 minutes ago

  • Demoted to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Uribe to Triple-A Nashville after Thursday's win against the Rays, Adam McCalvy of MLB.comreports.

Advice: It's been an eventful two days for Uribe, who is now headed to the minors after being handed a six-game suspension for his role in Tuesday's benches-clearing brawl versus the Rays. The right-hander appealed the ban and allowed a run on a hit and two walks over one inning Wednesday, and he now has a 6.91 ERA and 14:12 K:BB across 14.1 frames this season. The 22-year-old will likely be tasked with honing his command down at Triple-A, and the demotion will give Milwaukee some bullpen security with Freddy Peralta also facing a suspension, as Uribe won't begin serving his ban until he's back on the major-league roster. • Red Sox outright Joely Rodriguez to Triple-A
Red Sox sent LHP Joely Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Rodriguez slipped through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as bullpen depth for the Red Sox in the upper minors. He’ll get another chance at some point during the 2024 season. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago
  • BoSox designate Vladimir Gutierrez for assignment
Red Sox designated RHP Vladimir Gutierrez for assignment.

Advice: The Res Sox needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Dominic Smith on Wednesday and unfortunately Gutierrez was the odd-man out. He could once again attract interest on waivers. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago
