• Austin Riley remains out Tuesday vs. Cubs
Austin Riley (side) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cubs.

Advice: No surprise here as Riley will miss his eighth straight contest due to an ongoing side issue after sitting out both contests of Monday’s doubleheader. There’s been zero indication that he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, despite the fact that he’s yet to resume swinging a bat. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but it doesn’t sound like the Braves are going to make a roster move at this juncture. It’ll be Zack Short drawing another start at the keystone on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Rotoworld Today, 1:41 pm

  • Remains out of lineup
Riley (intercostal) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs.

Advice: Riley hasn't played since May 12 because of left intercostal inflammation. Atlanta has resisted putting its third baseman on the 10-day injured list so far, and at this point, it would appear the team will continue to wait things out. He was cleared to take soft swings in the batting cage Tuesday, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com, so Riley at least appears to be making progress in his recovery. Zack Short will again be at the hot corner Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 1:39 pm

  • On bench Tuesday
Santander is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Santander has been banged up with bruised knee recently and will get a day off Tuesday after going hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Colton Cowser will bat fifth and play left field against Lance Lynn and the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Today, 1:22 pm

  • Extended bullpen on tap
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Lodolo (groin) will throw an extended bullpen session within the next day or two, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Following the bullpen session, a plan will be mapped out for Lodolo's return. The left-hander had previously expressed optimism that he could be back from the 15-day injured list when first eligible on May 27, so it's possible he'll skip a rehab assignment and go right back into the Reds' rotation if things go well during the bullpen session. • Lane Thomas starting rehab assignment in Double-A
Lane Thomas (knee) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Harrisburg.

Advice: Thomas has been on the injured list since near the end of April due to a sprained left MCL. The outfielder will likely need a week or so of rehab appearances, but then could return to the Washington lineup near the end of May. Thomas got off to a slow start prior to the injury, but was a solid fantasy option in 2023. Rotoworld Today, 5:43 am

  • Logs steal in loss
Pena went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Pena is hitting .324 (23-for-71) over 19 games in May. It hasn't been a totally empty average -- he's picked up five extra-base hits, three steals, nine RBI and 14 runs scored. The shortstop is slashing .326/.365/.457 with seven steals, five homers, 20 RBI and 30 runs through 48 contests overall. He's in an everyday role and on pace for a 20-steal season, so there's a fair amount to like about Pena's game in his third major-league season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:50 pm

  • Could be activated Friday
Thomas (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Thomas is set to play Tuesday and Wednesday before being reevaluated. Assuming all goes well, it would set him up to be activated ahead of the Nationals' weekend series against the Mariners. Thomas has missed nearly a month of action with a Grade 2 MCL sprain of his left knee. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:18 pm

  • Back at DH on Monday
Santander (knee) is batting fifth as the designated hitter Monday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Santander aggravated his bruised knee Saturday against the Mariners and was held out of the lineup Sunday, but he's been cleared to bat in the series opener at St. Louis. The 29-year-old said Sunday that running in the outfield has been a bit problematic, so he could continue to serve as Baltimore's DH for the next few days as he completes his recovery. • Out again for first game
Riley (side) is not in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

Advice: Riley hasn't played in more than a week due to intercostal inflammation in his left side. He hopes to try swinging a bat soon but would appear to be at least a few days away from returning to the lineup. Zack Short will again be at third base for Atlanta in Monday's afternoon tilt.
