• Frankie Montas takes tough loss in 1-0 game
Frankie Montas limited the Cardinals to one run and two hits over six innings in a losing cause Friday.

Advice: Montas wasn’t as strong as the line suggests; he allowed nine hard-hit balls and two would have been homers had this been a home game. Since it was played in St. Louis instead, Nolan Gorman had a flyout on a ball that was a homer in 24 parks and Michael Siani settled for a double on a shot that was a homer in 12 parks. • Struggles with command in loss
Hudson (2-11) took the loss Friday versus the White Sox, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out three.

Advice: The Colorado righty failed to find the strike zone as his five free passes matched a season worst previously reached April 13 and June 16. Hudson finishes off a poor June, during which he made five starts, going 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 13:14 K:BB across 24.1 innings. Things don't get much easier for him as he's currently scheduled to face the Brewers -- a team collectively sporting a 113 wRC+ against righties -- at home in his next outing. • Moves to 4-3
Pallante (4-3) allowed four hits and three walks over 5.1 shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Cincinnati.

Advice: Pallante worked around a few jams to keep the Reds off the board. The Cardinals would go on to win 1-0, so his scoreless performance was much-needed. Since moving into the starting rotation, Pallante has produced a 3.86 ERA with a 25:13 K:BB in six starts. His season ERA dropped to 4.50 through 38 innings. Pallante's next start is currently lined up to be in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:49 pm

  • Extends saves lead
Helsley struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Reds on Friday.

Advice: Helsley had about as efficient of an outing as possible, needing only six pitches to close out the 1-0 game. It was his 29th save in 30 tries this season and he lowered his June ERA to 3.00 through 12 appearances. Helsley leads all of baseball in saves and no one else has more than 25. He dropped his season ERA to 2.68 alongside a 44:16 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:43 pm
  • Alec Marsh strong for six against Guardians
Alec Marsh pitched six innings of one-run ball Friday in a victory over the Guardians.

Advice: Marsh came into the night with a 6.61 ERA in his previous six starts, so he needed this. Since it’s just the fifth time this year that he’s completed six innings, he has only four quality starts. Nevertheless, he’s 6-5 with a 4.19 ERA. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:33 pm

  • Throws six scoreless innings in win
Suarez (4-2) earned the win over the Rangers on Friday, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out two over six scoreless innings.

Advice: Suarez was efficient, needing just 87 pitches to toss his first quality start of the season. The righty generated only six swinging strikes, but this was a huge bounceback after he had allowed eight earned runs over his previous two outings. On the season, Suarez owns a 2.45 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB over 59.1 innings and lines up to face the Athletics next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:15 pm

  • Secures save Friday
Megill tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn a save against the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Megill threw nine of 11 pitches for strikes and quickly worked through the Cubs' 6-7-8 hitters to finish the 4-2 victory. He's converted 11 straight save chances since his last blown opportunity May 20. During that stretch, he's produced a 1.32 ERA over 13.2 frames. Megill's season ERA is down to 1.71 alongside a 30:7 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:10 pm
  • Rehabbing in rookie ball
Pruitt (knee) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday.

Advice: Pruitt has been on the injured list since late April due to a right meniscus injury, and he's now been given the go-ahead to begin playing in games. The Rangers haven't provided any details regarding the planned duration of Pruitt's rehab stint, but he'll likely need to make a few appearances with a minor-league affiliate before coming off the injured list. There's also no guarantee the 34-year-old reports to the Rangers upon being activated, as he allowed six earned runs in just 4.1 MLB innings before getting hurt. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:09 pm
