• Carlos Correa hits two-run homer vs. Mariners
Carlos Correa connected on a two-run homer in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.

Advice: The good run for Correa continues, as he broke up Logan Gilbert’s shutout in the sixth inning with a two-run blast over the field-field fence in the sixth inning. That’s nine homers now on the season for the 29-year-old, and he also produced a single in what has been an extraordinary June for Correa. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:32 pm
  • Luis Rengifo swats two-run homer vs. Tigers
Luis Rengifo hit a two-run homer in the Angels’ win Friday over the Tigers.

Advice: Rengifo gave the Angels a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run swat off Kenta Maeda. Those would be the only runs the Angels would pick up off Maeda, but the Halos were able to get to the Detroit bullpen to pull off the win. Rengifo has been a real bright spot for Los Angeles in 2024 with a .315 average, six homers and 24 RBI through the first 81 games of the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:06 pm

  • Santiago Espinal designated hitless in loss
Santiago Espinal went 0-for-4 as the Reds’ DH in the shutout loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: We’re not saying it tops “for sale: baby shoes, never worn,” but “Santiago Espinal, designated hitter” is also an awfully sad story and is two entire words shorter. The Cincinnati lineup tonight was a product of the Reds keeping Jeimer Candelario and Jake Fraley in injury limbo for the third straight game; neither could even DH tonight, but the Reds still didn’t want to commit to IL stints. Espinal is currently batting .198/.246/.287 in... wait, that can’t be right... 187 plate appearances? Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:54 pm

  • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A. • Nick Gonzales doubles in loss
Nick Gonzales went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base on Friday against the Braves.

Advice: The double was Gonzales’ first extra-base hit in 12 games after smacking 12 in his first 30 contests this season. He’s still been a regular in the Pirates’ lineup despite the recent lack of power. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:09 pm

  • CJ Abrams (hand) checks out fine after HBP Friday
CJ Abrams checked out fine after being hit in the left hand/wrist area by a pitch during Friday’s loss to the Rays.

Advice: Abrams stayed in for the duration of the game, but had X-rays done afterwards just to be on the safe side and they came back negative for any fractures. He should be in his customary leadoff spot in the Nationals’ lineup once again on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:59 pm

  • Back with Giants
The Giants recalled Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With Thairo Estrada (wrist) headed for the injured list, Fitzgerald will return to San Francisco in order to give the Giants some depth in the infield, though he is also capable of playing in the outfield. The 26-year-old has slashed .273/.333/.409 across 72 plate appearances in the majors and could share reps with Nick Ahmed until Estrada returns. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:00 pm
  • Bryson Stott drives in two runs to lead Phillies
Bryson Stott drove in a pair of runs on Friday night, accounting for all of the Phillies’ offense in a 2-0 victory over the Marlins.

Advice: Stott used his wheels in the fifth inning, beating out a potential inning-ending double play ball to score Whit Merrifield with the game’s first run. He then tacked on a valuable insurance run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly. The 26-year-old infielder finished the night 0-for-3 and is now hitting .239/.332/.359 with five homers, 38 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:48 pm

  • Officially placed on IL
The Giants placed Estrada on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left wrist sprain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reported earlier Friday that Estrada has been playing through multiple injuries recently, and the Giants will now place the 28-year-old infielder on the IL so that he can recover properly. Tyler Fitzgerald will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to help replenish the Giants' infield depth, and Nick Ahmed figures to see the biggest increase in playing time while Estrada is sidelined.
