• Joe Musgrove (triceps) will return from IL Sunday
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt confirmed that Joe Musgrove (triceps) will return from the injured list to start Sunday’s series finale against the Braves.

Advice: Musgrove has been sidelined since May 5 due to triceps tendinitis. He has made remarkable progress this week though — so much so that the Padres felt he didn’t even need a minor league rehab start. Fantasy managers may want to take a wait-and-see approach before throwing him back out there in lineups though. Prior to landing on the injured list, Musgrove had posted a 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and a 36/13 K/BB ratio across 41 innings in his first eight starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:05 pm

  • Still in line to return Sunday
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that Musgrove (elbow) is "in a great spot" to return to the team's rotation Sunday in Atlanta, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports.

Advice: Musgrove has thrown two bullpen sessions since going on the injured list with right elbow inflammation May 5 and doesn't appear to need a rehab assignment. The right-hander played catch Friday, and if he recovers well from that, there's a good chance he'll take the mound for Sunday's matchup in Atlanta. Musgrove has struggled with a 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 41 innings this season, though he pitched well in his most recent start prior to landing on the IL, allowing two runs and striking out nine batters over six frames against Cincinnati on May 1. • Joe Musgrove (triceps) could start on Sunday
Joe Musgrove (triceps) is hopeful he’ll return from the injured list to start on Sunday against the Braves.

Advice: That’s certainly surprising. Musgrove landed on the injured list on May 5 due to triceps tendinitis and hasn’t really done much except play catch since then. You would think that he would need to ramp back up a bit and require a minor league rehab start before jumping right back into the swing of things — and perhaps he may — but this sounds like he’s much closer to a return than most had anticipated. • Collects fifth save
Kopech walked two and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Nationals.

Advice: After working a scoreless frame in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader in a non-save situation, Kopech was called upon again and labored through 33 pitches (20 strikes) before finally getting the job done. The last time the right-hander pitched on back-to-back days, he got the next four days off, so Kopech could be unavailable at least until the weekend. Through 19 appearances this season, he sports a 3.32 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB through 21.2 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:10 pm

  • Blanks Nats for fourth win
Crochet (4-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Nationals, giving up three hits and three walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The left-hander wasn't exactly efficient, tossing only 56 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Crochet lasted long enough to qualify for the win. After a rough stretch in April, the 24-year-old has allowed only three runs over his last three starts (1.59 ERA) with a stellar 24:1 K:BB in 17 innings. Crochet will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Toronto. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:03 pm

  • Eyeing Sunday return
Musgrove (elbow) could return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Atlanta, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Dylan Cease is available to pitch Sunday on his normal four days' rest, but the Padres appear to be leaving the door open for Musgrove to return Sunday if he comes out of his bullpen session Wednesday no worse for the wear. Randy Vasquez has stepped in to fill the vacancy in the rotation since Musgrove was placed on the IL on May 5 with elbow inflammation. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:35 pm

  • Improves to 2-0
Gasser (2-0) earned the win Wednesday over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Gasser was solid in his second big-league outing, allowing just one run in the third inning while the Brewers exploded for 10 runs in a convincing victory. The 24-year-old southpaw has allowed just one run through 11 innings in his first two starts after posting a 5.25 ERA in three outings with Triple-A Nashville. Gasser figures to stick in Milwaukee's rotation while DL Hall (knee) is sidelined. The former is currently slated for a road matchup with the Marlins in his next start. • Goes four innings vs. Toronto
Bradish did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Both runs against Bradish came on a Bo Bichette double in the third inning. The right-hander was pulled after throwing 85 pitches, as the Orioles continue to limit Bradish's pitch count after he missed the first month of the season with a strained UCL. The 27-year-old Bradish sports a 2.63 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB across his first three starts (13.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Cardinals early next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:51 pm

  • Michael Kopech hangs on Wednesday for fifth save
Michael Kopech tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Nationals to record his fifth save of the season.

Advice: Kopech got the call to guard a two-run advantage in the final frame and managed to work around a pair of walks to secure Chicago’s much-needed victory. The 28-year-old former starter has handed out a few more free passes than fantasy managers would like to see, but he’s adjusted nicely to a high-leverage role this season, converting five of six save chances so far to accompany a solid 3.32 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 29/14 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings (19 appearances).
