    • Collects second career save
Pearson gave up two hits and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season in a win over the Royals.

Advice: With Jordan Romano and Yimi Garcia having pitched each of the prior two days, and Erik Swanson getting deployed in the eighth inning Monday, closing duties fell to Pearson and he handled them well en route to his second career save. The 27-year-old right-hander fired 11 of 16 pitches for strikes, and his fastball reached 100 mph as he struck out Michael Massey to end the game. Pearson has been scored upon only once in 11 big-league appearances this season, and while his control has wavered at times, he sports a 1.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB through 10 innings. The Blue Jays have a deep bullpen, but Pearson is making a case to at least be a part-time member of the high-leverage crew. Rotowire.com 22 minutes ago
    • Nabs win Monday
Cabrera (1-0) was credited with the win Monday against the Royals, allowing one hit and striking out two in a scoreless 1.1 innings of relief.

Advice: The southpaw entered the game in the fourth inning with two on and two out to protect a 4-3 lead, and he got Vinnie Pasquantino to ground out before dispatching Kansas City without too much trouble in the fifth. That was enough to get him named the winning pitcher by the official scorer. Cabrera had a bumpy beginning to the season, but over his last seven appearances he's posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB through seven innings. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
    • Velocity ticking up
Smith-Shawver topped 99 mph with three fastballs during his last start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 21-year-old right-hander is still learning the nuances of pitching after mostly playing quarterback in high school, so it's not surprisingly that Smith-Shawver is unlocking more velocity. He struck out a season-high seven batters in five innings for Gwinnett on Wednesday, and while Atlanta is limiting his workload by only having him pitch once a week rather than on a regular five-day schedule, he still figures to be an option for the big-league rotation at some point in 2024. After a couple shaky outings to begin the year at Triple-A, he's given up four runs with a 10:4 K:BB over his last 9.2 innings. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
    • Lasts just four innings in loss
Henry (1-2) took the loss against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks without recording a strikeout over four innings.

Advice: Henry got another turn in the rotation with Merrill Kelly (shoulder) and Ryne Nelson (elbow) on the injured list, but he was mostly ineffective against a potent Dodgers offense. Though the extent of the damage on the scoreboard against the southpaw was a pair of second-inning runs, he didn't record a single strikeout, and only one of his 72 pitches was a swinging strike. Henry's overall body of work this season has been mediocre, as he's posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB over 28.1 frames. He may be pushed out of the rotation before his next turn comes up with Nelson nearing a return to action. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:41 pm
    • Shaky but victorious
Paxton (3-0) earned the win over Arizona on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

Advice: Paxton gave up constant traffic on the basepaths and needed 96 pitches to get through just five frames, but a potent Dodgers offense gave him enough support to keep his record spotless at 3-0 for the season. Despite the veteran southpaw's clean record, he's been a volatile rotation option for Los Angeles due largely to his control issues -- Paxton has walked five or more batters on three occasions this season after doing so only five times total across his first 10 big-league campaigns. Though Paxton has thus far done what it takes to pick up wins in spite of the issue with free passes, fantasy managers may be hesitant to deploy him given his ugly 15:22 K:BB and 1.68 WHIP through 25.2 innings on the season. • Joe Boyle holds Pirates to one hit in win
Joe Boyle allowed only one hit while pitching five innings of one-run ball Monday in Oakland’s 5-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Advice: Boyle walked four, but it didn’t matter much with what little hard contact the Pirates made turning into routine outs. The victory moved Boyle to 2-4 with a 6.08 ERA. He doesn’t seem like a very good bet going forward, but he’s not an awful choice with a home start versus the Marlins coming up next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:20 pm
    • Bailey Falter tagged for five runs in loss
Bailey Falter lost to the A’s after allowing five runs in five innings on Monday.

Advice: Falter was picked up in a bunch of leagues this week because he had the greatest two-start schedule ever dreamed up; he was facing the A’s on the road and the Rockies at home. Start No. 1 was a bust, but at least he did manage five strikeouts and a 1.2 WHIP. Start No. 2 will likely be better. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:19 pm
    • Takes loss Monday
Waldron (1-3) was tagged with the loss against Cincinnati on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Advice: Waldron fell behind early on an Elly De La Cruz first-inning solo homer, and he gave up four runs across his first three frames. To his credit, the knuckleballer yielded just one hit and zero runs over his final three innings, but San Diego's offense was mostly held in check. Waldron has completed six frames in each of his past two appearances, and he's given up one run in half of his six starts on the season. However, his record sits at 1-3, and he's pitched to a mediocre 4.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 31 frames overall. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:09 pm
    • Nick Lodolo strikes out 11 in defeating Padres
Nick Lodolo limited the Padres to one run and one hit while striking out 11 in seven innings Monday in the Reds’ 5-2 victory.

Advice: That Lodolo has looked this good this soon after his season-opening IL stint has been a very nice surprise. Maybe he’s not as good of a bet to stay healthy as some, but he’s throwing like an ace right now and the stuff is there for him to keep it up. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:05 pm
