• Red Sox outright Joely Rodriguez to Triple-A
Red Sox sent LHP Joely Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: Rodriguez slipped through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as bullpen depth for the Red Sox in the upper minors. He’ll get another chance at some point during the 2024 season. Rotoworld Today, 3:49 pm
  • BoSox designate Vladimir Gutierrez for assignment
Red Sox designated RHP Vladimir Gutierrez for assignment.

Advice: The Res Sox needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Dominic Smith on Wednesday and unfortunately Gutierrez was the odd-man out. He could once again attract interest on waivers. Rotoworld Today, 3:38 pm
  • Raisel Iglesias dodges traffic to net eighth save
Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Mariners to collect his eighth save of the season.

Advice: Iglesias was summoned to guard a three-run lead in the final frame and certainly made things interesting by issuing a leadoff walk to Luke Raley before giving up a single to ensuing batter Julio Rodríguez. He set down Mitch Haniger and Jorge Polanco before getting Cal Raleigh to ground out to preserve the victory. The 34-year-old veteran stopper has converted eight of nine save opportunities this season to accompany a sparkling 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 9/3 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings (13 appearances). • Mason Miller silences Pirates in non-save spot
Mason Miller fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation against the Pirates.

Advice: Miller got the call to protect a four-run lead in the final frame after needing 16 pitches to close out Tuesday’s victory less than 24 hours ago. He got Jack Suwinski to ground out and fanned Henry Davis before coaxing a game-ending ground out from Ke’Bryan Hayes. He averaged 100.8 mph on his fastball and needed just 10 pitches to spin a perfect frame. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has reeled off 12 consecutive scoreless appearances since April 2, and has converted eight saves to go along with a microscopic 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work. Simply put, he’s one of the best relievers in baseball already. Rotoworld Today, 3:07 pm
  • Ross Stripling spins six shutout frames vs. Pirates
Ross Stripling fired six shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

Advice: Stripling certainly wasn’t overpowering, mustering only a pair of strikeouts, but he managed to keep Pittsburgh’s lineup off balance with his five-pitch mix. He also consistently filled up the zone, throwing 58 of 79 pitches for strikes, and didn’t hand out a free pass in one of his better outings of the year. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive starts since April 15, but the lack of strikeouts limits his streaming appeal almost exclusively to deeper mixed leagues. He’ll take a serviceable 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a challenging home matchup on Tuesday against the Rangers. Rotoworld Today, 3:07 pm

  • Brewers option Abner Uribe to Triple-A
Brewers optioned RHP Abner Uribe to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Uribe opened the season as the Brewers’ closer, but wound up posting a troublesome 6.91 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 14 1/3 innings. He was also a major player in Tuesday’s scuffle with Jose Siri and the Rays, resulting in a six-game suspension that he’s appealing. He’ll try to get back on track at Triple-A. • Jose Urquidy (forearm) throws live bullpen session
Jose Urquidy (forearm) threw a live bullpen session on Wednesday without any issues.

Advice: The right-handed threw around 30 pitches during the session which went very well according to Astros’ skipper Joe Espada. He’ll repeat the process again in a few days and then progress to a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld Today, 2:44 pm
  • Diamondbacks option Saalfrank to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Andrew Saalfrank to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Saalfrank has struggled mightily in two appearances out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen this season, posting a 36.00 ERA and 6.00 WHIP in his inning of work. Blake Walston was recalled in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 2:35 pm
  • Tracking toward return next week
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that he expects Montas (forearm) to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible May 7 or the day after, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Montas was placed on the IL on April 22 with a bruised right forearm, which he sustained when he was struck by a line drive in his start a day earlier. Bell noted that Montas threw a side session Monday without issue, and the right-hander will throw one more bullpen session later this week as a final test of his health. If all goes well, Montas should rejoin the rotation for the Reds' three-game series with the Diamondbacks that begins next Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 2:27 pm
