• Report: A’s designating J.D. Davis for assignment
The A’s have decided to cut J.D. Davis, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Advice: This is the move to make room for Lawrence Butler. We’re hard-pressed to see how Davis is worse than Seth Brown or even Abraham Toro, who has been pretty terrible since the A’s decided to make him their leadoff man. Still, none of this really matters — none of these guys are going to be part of the next competitive A’s team — but Davis might help someone else down the stretch. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:31 pm

  • Cruises to easy win
Peterson allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rangers.

Advice: Peterson delivered a quality start as the Mets piled on 14 runs of support in the victory. He's earned three straight wins and has produced a quality start in two of his first four outings this season. He dropped his ERA to 3.97 with a 12:8 K:BB through 22.2 innings. Peterson also generated a season-high 11 whiffs, including six with his fastball. His next start is expected to be on the road against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:29 pm

  • Peterson wins third consecutive start Monday
David Peterson allowed two runs in six innings and got the win in the Mets’ 14-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

Advice: Peterson gave up four hits, walked three and struck out six. He’s now won three consecutive starts and the six strikeouts were a season-high. A former first round pick by the Mets in 2017, Peterson is once again getting a chance in the Mets’ rotation and seems to be making the most of it. He struggled with a 5.03 ERA in 27 appearances last year, but his 3.59 xFIP suggested he wasn’t quite that bad. He now has a 3.97 ERA in four starts this year. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Cubs on the road this weekend.

  • Designated for assignment
Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Davis will now be available to be claimed off waivers and if he has no takers, Oakland is expected to release the 31-year-old. After being released by the Giants in March, Davis compiled a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored over 123 at-bats in 39 games with the Athletics this season. • Set to start Monday
Plesac will draw the start Monday versus the Brewers.

Advice: Plesac will replace Jose Soriano (abdomen) on the mound after Soriano was a late scratch with lower abdominal pain Monday. Plesac had his contract selected by Los Angeles on Monday and he'll now get his first chance to start a major-league contest in 2024. The right-hander has produced a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 74.2 innings in 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:30 pm

  • Angels bring Zach Plesac back to majors
Angels selected the contract of RHP Zach Plesac from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Plesac’s 5.42 ERA and 51/26 K/BB ratio in 74 2/3 innings for Salt Lake don’t bode well for a successful return to the majors here. Still, he can eat innings, and the Angels might have some need for that this week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:48 pm

  • Contract selected by Halos
The Angels selected the contract of Plesac on Monday.

Advice: After being designated for assignment by the Angels on April 8, Plesac stayed with the organization in Triple-A after passing through waivers. Across 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake, Plesac holds a 3-7 record with a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. However, over his last two starts, he's given up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 15.1 innings. With Chase Silseth (elbow) close to returning from the 60-day IL, Plesac will likely operate out of the Angels' bullpen after right-hander Jose Suarez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. • On base three times in loss
Davis went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run during a loss to the Twins in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday.

Advice: Davis drew an increasingly rare start at third base and delivered his first multi-hit effort since May 24. The veteran has been displaced from the starting nine more often than not since late May, logging a total of just 17 plate appearances across six games since the calendar flipped to June. Davis is capable of playing both corner infield spots in addition to serving as the designated hitter, but younger options Tyler Soderstrom, Abraham Toro and Brent Rooker are currently the preferred options at those respective positions. • Drawing another start
Rodriguez is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Angels in Anaheim, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The 22-year-old righty will get another turn through the rotation despite underwhelming in his MLB debut versus Toronto this past Tuesday, when he struck out four over 3.2 innings while giving up two runs on seven hits and one walk. Rodriguez showed the ability to make bats miss at every stop of the minors, but control remains a concern for the youngster. Even though he issued just one walk in his debut, he wasn't particularly efficient, as he needed 71 pitches to record 10 outs and threw just 43 strikes. Rodriguez would bolster his case for sticking around with the big club if he pitches well Monday, but Jakob Junis' (shoulder) impending return from the 60-day injured list might make Rodriguez expendable if he struggles against the Angels.
