• Next rehab start to come Sunday
Anderson (elbow) threw three innings with Atlanta's Florida Complex League affiliate Monday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three, and his next rehab start will come Sunday with a different affiliate, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: The right-hander has been sitting 92-95 mph with his fastball during two appearances in the FCL, and the organization is pleased with his progress so far. "Reports are good, he feels good, all the numbers are good," manager Brian Snitker said Monday. Anderson is in the final stages of his recovery from April 2023 Tommy John surgery, but Atlanta seems likely to let him get fully built up in the minors before considering him for the big-league rotation. The team has yet to announce which level he'll be sent to for his next outing. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:10 am

  • Could be nearing mound work
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that he's hopeful that Brown (neck) will be cleared to resume throwing off a mound at some point later this week, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Brown was placed on the 15-day injured list June 11 with a left neck strain, only for reports to surface a few days later suggesting that the right-hander might be dealing with a stress reaction. After the Cubs sought out multiple medical opinions, however, the original diagnosis of a neck strain has held up, and Brown was cleared to resume throwing last Tuesday. According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Brown played catch three times this past week and threw from 90 feet Friday, leaving Counsell optimistic that the rookie may be ready to take another meaningful step forward this week by getting back on the mound. Montemurro notes that Brown was told when he received his diagnosis that he was about one month into what's described as a "two-to-three-month burnout period" for the neck injury, though that timeline won't affect his potential return date from the IL and only relates to how long he might be physically feeling the effects of the injury. Assuming Brown is able to complete a bullpen session this week, he would still likely have a chance at completing his throwing progression and returning from the IL before the All-Star break. • Rehab moving to Triple-A
The Red Sox will transfer Mata's (shoulder) rehab assignment to Triple-A Worcester this week, Peter Abraham and Alex Speier of The Boston Globe report.

Advice: Mata made two appearances (both starts) for Double-A Portland last week, throwing five shutout innings. The right-hander was initially sidelined in February by a hamstring injury, which has since healed, but shoulder soreness ensued. Mata, who is out of minor-league options, can remain on his latest rehab assignment until July 15, at which point the Red Sox will have to decide how to proceed. The club was focused on making him a reliever prior to hamstring injury, and it's unlikely Mata would be part of the parent club's rotation. Rotowire.com Monday, 6:04 am

  • Throwing live BP on Monday
Gallen (hamstring) is slated to throw a live batting practice session Monday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gallen threw 52 pitches in a previous simulated game this past Tuesday, so he'll likely increase his workload a bit in Monday's throwing session. If all goes well, the right-hander will likely be activated from the 15-day injured list during the Diamondbacks' series against Oakland that begins Friday. Gallen has been on the shelf since May 30 with a right hamstring strain. Rotowire.com Monday, 4:42 am

  • Dealing with shoulder inflammation
Astros manager Joe Espada said Sunday that an MRI on Bloss's right shoulder revealed inflammation, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday and will refrain from throwing for at least a few days until the swelling subsides. He sustained the injury in his major-league debut against the Orioles on Friday, when he was removed after giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.2 innings. • Pulled after three innings
Cecconi (2-6) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing one run on five hits over three innings against the Phillies. He struck out two.

Advice: Cecconi completed three innings and was pulled after tossing just 46 pitches, having allowed one earned run. He had tossed at least 70 pitches in each of his previous nine starts, but after allowing five hits and facing 11 batters during the second and third innings and with a morning game-time temperature of 91 degrees, manager Torey Lovullo decided to pull the plug early on Cecconi's outing. Cecconi was coming off a performance on Tuesday in which he tossed six scoreless against the Nationals. His next start is scheduled to come in a much softer matchup next weekend as the Diamondbacks play host to Oakland. Rotowire.com Sunday, 12:00 pm
  • Slade Cecconi lifted after three versus Phillies
Slade Cecconi was lifted after allowing one run in three innings Sunday in his start against the Phillies.

Advice: Since the Diamondbacks didn’t use their key relievers Saturday and have tomorrow off, they were aggressive in going to the pen today. Cecconi allowed five hits in three innings, so it’s not like he was having an easy time out there anyway. He wound up with the loss, leaving him 2-6 with a 5.74 ERA. Rotoworld Sunday, 11:33 am
  • Steamrolled by Minnesota
Sears (4-7) took the loss against the Twins on Saturday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out one batter over 1.1 innings.

Advice: Sears was wild in the first inning, as a pair of hit-by-pitches contributed to a Twins run, though he was able to escape the frame without additional damage. Things got much worse for the lefty in the second, when he allowed six straight batters to reach base to open the frame and was pulled with just one out after six runs had crossed the plate. One more Twins runner scored following his departure, resulting in a season-worst eight runs being charged to Sears' ledger. This was by far the hurler's shortest and worst start of the campaign, and the collapse vaulted his season ERA from 4.25 to 5.04. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:59 pm

  • Strong again in win
Blanco (8-2) allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings to earn the win over the Orioles on Saturday.

Advice: Blanco wasn't as dominant as he was with seven no-hit innings last weekend versus the Tigers, but it was still an impressive showing. He's allowed just two runs over 20 innings across his last three starts after giving up four runs in each of his two outings before this stretch of dominance. The right-hander continues to thrive in his first full year as a starter, pitching to a 2.34 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 79:35 K:BB through 84.2 innings over 14 starts. Blanco is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Mets. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:58 pm
