• Goes three innings in rehab start
Maeda (illness) allowed one run and struck out six over three innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Advice: He threw 53 pitches in the outing. Maeda will throw a bullpen session either Tuesday or Wednesday, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, and a decision as to whether he'll require another rehab start has not yet been made. It's possible he could rejoin the Tigers' rotation as soon as Friday versus the Blue Jays, but more should be known about his status in the coming days. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Brewers bring back Joey Wiemer from injured list
Brewers activated OF Joey Wiemer from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Wiemer missed 16 days with left knee soreness. The Brewers could have just sent him down, as he wasn’t playing well before getting hurt, but they’ve instead decided to go with him over Chris Roller. He’ll likely play against lefties and come off the bench versus righties. He’s starting in center field and batting ninth tonight against Ryan Weathers. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Brewers option OF Chris Roller to Triple-A
Brewers optioned OF Chris Roller to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: So much for Roller getting any sort of look. He struck out in his lone at-bat during his five days with the Brewers. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Brewers designate Thyago Vieira for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Thyago Vieira for assignment.

Advice: Vieira loses his spot after posting a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings out of the pen. He still has the live arm capable of delivering 95-99 mph fastballs, but all it’s gotten him is a 6.18 ERA since he debuted with the Mariners in 2017. Even so, there’s a decent chance that someone will claim him, since he’s making the minimum and can eat innings out of the pen. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
  • Feeling better
Rendon (hamstring) has progressed to walking on an incline on the treadmill, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Rendon is taking baby steps in his recovery from a left hamstring strain but said Monday that he's feeling a bit better. There remains no timetable for his return and he's not eligible for activation for another month after being shifted to the 60-day injured list. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago

  • On bench for Game 2
Merrill is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader in Atlanta.

Advice: Merrill started in center field in Game 1 and went 1-for-4 with two RBI, as he brought home San Diego's first two runs on a groundout and a single. Jose Azocar will take over in center field for the nightcap. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm

  • Might be back this weekend
Middleton (forearm) will be evaluated for potential activation from the injured list following back-to-back rehab appearances with Double-A Springfield on Wednesday and Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Middleton hasn't allowed a hit or a run in two scoreless rehab innings so far, although he's also walked three and has not recorded a strikeout. He's been out all season with a right forearm strain. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm

  • Royals activate Jake Brentz, send him to Double-A
Royals activated LHP Jake Brentz from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Advice: Brentz returned from Tommy John surgery at the end of last year, only to go down with a hamstring injury this spring that cost him six weeks. He had been struggling mightily on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha, giving up nine runs and walking 17 in six innings, so he’ll head to Double-A for now. The 29-year-old looked like a promising lefty reliever in 2021, but at this point, he might be the next player bumped from the 40-man if the Royals need to add someone. Rotoworld Today, 2:39 pm

  • Continuing mound work
Gallegos (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: It will be his third since going on the injured list two weeks ago with a right shoulder impingement. Gallegos could continue with his mound work after that or perhaps will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. It sounds like he might be ready to rejoin the Cardinals' bullpen in late May or early June. Rotowire.com Today, 2:39 pm
