    • Returns to starting nine
Steer (ankle) will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer didn't start in either of the last two games while managing a sore ankle, though he felt well enough to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers. Monday's team off day plus an absence from the lineup in Tuesday's 2-0 win over San Diego appears to have provided sufficient time for Steer to move past the ankle issue. He'll likely continue to see the bulk of his starts at first base rather than in the corner outfield for the duration of Christian Encarnacion-Strand's (wrist) stint on the injured list. • Cranks second homer
McNeil went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and a second run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Guardians.

Advice: McNeil poked a one-out double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Francisco Lindor single. He then cut the Mets' deficit to 5-4 with a two-run homer off left-hander Sam Hentges, his second of the year. It's been a tough start to the year for McNeil, though he's shown signs of life of late, going 6-for-19 with no strikeouts in his last five games. Overall, the 32-year-old second baseman is slashing .240/.314/.329 with 18 runs scored, 12 RBI and three steals across 186 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:07 am

    • Quiet in return
Bryant went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday against the Athletics.

Advice: Bryant was activated from the injured list Tuesday and appeared in the lineup for the first time since April 13. He returned to play first base and hit fifth in the order, though he was unable to reach base. Despite maintaining a .489 OPS through 59 plate appearances, Bryant projects to remain a regular in the Rockies' lineup moving forward. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:04 am

    • Drops to ninth in order
Benson batted ninth and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 2-0 win over San Diego.

Advice: Benson had been Cincinnati's leadoff batter against right-handers since TJ Friedl (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list last week. Rookie Jacob Hurtubise took on the role Tuesday, with Benson sliding to the bottom of the order. Benson had gone 4-for-18 with two walks and two home runs over his last five games as the leadoff batter. It's unclear if this will be manager David Bell's plan going forward until Friedl is ready. • Back in action
Bryant (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game in Oakland, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Advice: Bryant returns to the lineup for the Rockies on Tuesday, starting at first base and batting fifth. The 32-year-old landed on the injured list April 17 with a lower back strain. The veteran was slashing only .149/.273/.255 over 13 games before getting injured. With his return to the lineup, Sean Bouchard has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. • Rockies activate Kris Bryant for Tuesday return
Rockies activated INF/OF Kris Bryant from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Bryant returns to Colorado’s roster ahead of Tuesday’s showdown against the Athletics following a one-month absence due to a lower back strain. The 32-year-old has gotten off to an abysmal start at the dish this season, batting .149 (7-for-47) with one homer and zero steals in 13 games. He’s gradually faded into irrelevancy for fantasy purposes over the last few years with the Rockies. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:23 pm

    • Spencer Steer (ankle) remains out Tuesday vs. SD
Spencer Steer (ankle) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer will miss back-to-back games while dealing with his ankle injury. The 26-year-old will sit with Santiago Espinal at third and Jeimer Candelario again handling duties at first base. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:40 am

    • Out again Tuesday
Steer (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Steer was held out of Sunday's game with an ankle injury and remains out of action after Monday's off day. The good news is Steer said Tuesday that he's feeling better and expects to be available off the bench, just as he was Sunday when he served in a pinch-hit capacity, per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer. • Lane Thomas starting rehab assignment in Double-A
Lane Thomas (knee) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Harrisburg.

Advice: Thomas has been on the injured list since near the end of April due to a sprained left MCL. The outfielder will likely need a week or so of rehab appearances, but then could return to the Washington lineup near the end of May. Thomas got off to a slow start prior to the injury, but was a solid fantasy option in 2023. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:43 am
