    • Homers off bench Saturday
Merrifield went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a walk in Saturday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Merrifield didn't start the game but entered in the third inning for the injured Alec Bohm (hip) and wound up going deep off reliever Erik Miller later in the contest. Bohm is expected to be fine, but Merrifield could potentially see more action at second base in the coming weeks if the Phillies decide to shift Bryson Stott over to shortstop some days to cover for Trea Turner (hamstring). Merrifield is slashing .250/.308/.417 with two home runs and three steals over 16 games this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:27 pm

    • Drives in four Saturday
Bleday went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, a three-run home run, a walk and an additional run in a win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Bleday was one of several Athletics hitters to put on a lights-out performance in the 20-4 rout, continuing a recent trend of improved play at the expense of the organization that drafted him in the first round of the First-Year Player Draft in 2019. Bleday has now left the yard on three occasions in the last four games, and the three-hit day tied a season best. Bleday also coaxed his OPS to an improving .775 with the prolific afternoon, with the fact he's laced 13 of his 28 hits on the campaign for extra bases playing a key role. • JJ Bleday slugs three-run homer in A’s win
JJ Bleday went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI against the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Bleday drew a walk in the second inning, then broke the game open with a three-run homer off Trevor Rogers in the third. He later led off the sixth with a base hit and scored on a home run by Brett Harris. Bleday plated a fourth run with a double in the seventh for good measure. The 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .255/.328/.455 with four homers and 13 RBI across 122 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:22 pm

    • Wilyer Abreu plates lone run in loss to Twins
Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-4 and drove in the Red Sox’ lone run in Saturday afternoon’s loss to the Twins.

Advice: The Red Sox got something going early in this one, as Tyler O’Neill smacked a two-out double off of Pablo López in the opening inning. Abreu followed with a run-scoring single that gave his squad an early 1-0 advantage. That would be their only run in the ballgame. Abreu also singled in the game, collecting two of his team’s eight total hits. The 24-year-old outfielder has been terrific so far at the dish, slashing .307/.380/.489 with a pair of homers, 13 RBI and five stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:52 pm
    • Increasing baseball activities
Edman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after initially being limited to the right side as he recovers from right wrist surgery. He was also seen tracking flyballs during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing. • Idle against southpaw
Bleday isn't in Oakland's lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: With lefty Ryan Weathers set to toe the slab for Miami, Bleday will step out of the lineup. Esteury Ruiz will take over in center field and bat in the leadoff spot. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:26 pm

    • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld Friday, 2:52 pm

    • Lane Thomas (knee) takes dry swings on Friday
Lane Thomas (knee) was able to take dry swings without issue on Friday.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee. It’s nice to hear that he’s already back up and swinging and it may not be long before he’s in the box against live pitching once again. The Nationals have yet to provide a potential timeline for his return. Rotoworld Friday, 2:17 pm

    • Taking dry swings
Thomas (knee) has been cleared to take dry swings, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: It's been a little over a week since Thomas was diagnosed with an MCL sprain of his left knee, and he's now easing back into baseball activities. There is no timeline for the outfielder's return, but he's almost surely several weeks away. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:39 pm
