      The Pirates recalled Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

      Advice: Manager Derek Shelton confirmed that Davis will draw the start at catcher Tuesday against the Dodgers in the 24-year-old's return to the big leagues. He should ultimately split starts behind the dish with veteran Yasmani Grandal. Davis was optioned in early May after a dreadful start to the season, but he rebounded at Indianapolis by slashing .296/.436/.642 with seven home runs in 23 contests.     • Swipes 13th bag
      Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in a 2-1 victory versus the Padres on Monday.

      Advice: Offense in the contest was scarce, so Rengifo's role in producing the Angels' first run was especially valuable. He singled with one out in the fourth inning and stole second base before eventually crossing the plate on a Willie Calhoun single. Rengifo missed some time in May due to an illness, but he hasn't slowed down since returning, slashing .313/.353/.484 with two homers, six RBI, 10 runs and four stolen bases in 16 contests.       Hader earned a save against the Cardinals on Monday, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

      Advice: Entering with a 7-4 lead in the ninth inning, Hader needed only 14 pitches to secure his ninth save of the season. Hader has only allowed one run over his past 11 appearances and is now 9-for-10 in save attempts in 2024. He currently owns a 3.54 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 28 innings.     • Hit hard in no-decision
      Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

      Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season.       Josh Hader threw a scoreless inning to get a save against the Cardinals on Monday.

    • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
      Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



      Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

      Semien went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers on Monday.

      Advice: Semien opened the scoring with a leadoff homer off Tarik Skubal and added a single and a walk in the third and fifth innings. The homer was Semien's first since May 17, and he has now reached base in 10 of his 14 June plate appearances.       Advice: Alvarado picked up his 10th save of the season, his first since May 21. The southpaw blew his first save of the season May 24 in Coors Field, but he has otherwise pitched well since his last save, recording a 1.50 ERA with six strikeouts and two holds over six innings of work.
