    • Gets another save Sunday
Alvarado got the save in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Giants, allowing a solo home run while also striking out a batter in the ninth inning.

Advice: Alvarado served up a one-out solo blast to Jakson Reetz that pulled the Giants to within a run but was able to recoup with a strikeout and line out to end the game. The hard throwing lefty has picked up seven of the team's 12 saves so far this season, registering a 4.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB in 14.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 4:17 am
    • José Alvarado gives up homer, closes out Giants
José Alvarado served up a solo homer in the ninth inning on Sunday night, but was still able to close out the Giants to protect a one-run lead and secure his seventh save of the season.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw gave up a one-out solo blast to Jakson Reetz that pulled the Giants to within a run, but he battled back to strike out Nick Ahmed and got Jung Hoo Lee on a fly ball to right field to end it. He has now recorded seven of the team’s 12 total saves on the season while registering a 4.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 15/7 K/BB ratio across his 14 2/3 frames. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:11 pm
    • Tosses scoreless frame
Jansen pitched one scoreless inning, allowing one hit in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Jansen was locked into appearing in Sunday's contest no matter what, and he worked around an error by his defense and a single for a scoreless ninth inning. The 36-year-old is firmly locked into being Boston's closer in 2024, posting a 1.69 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 10.2 innings in 11 appearances while going 5-for-6 on save opportunities so far. • Blake Treinen has highest leverage role on Sunday
Blake Treinen pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout against the Braves on Sunday.

Advice: The performance is of note because Treinen was tasked with facing Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies with the Dodgers up 4-1 in the eighth inning. He retired both on a combined five pitches. With Evan Phillips on the injured list with a hamstring injury, it’s possible Treinen could emerge as at least part of the closer committee. It was presumed that Daniel Hudson would lead the pack, but he didn’t pitch at all in this game despite not pitching since Friday. He could have been held back for the save, but it’s meaningful to note the hitters Treinen was tasked with getting out; he clearly has Dave Roberts’ trust. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:28 pm
    • Josh Hader yields go-ahead homer in ninth
Josh Hader lost after giving up a go-ahead homer in a tie game Sunday against the Mariners.

Advice: It’s the save situations in which Hader has struggled, but the loss today came after he was asked to preserve a tie. Cal Raleigh’s homer was the second surrendered by Hader in 14 2/3 innings this year. Given that his strikeout rate remains exceptional and his groundball rate is actually considerably higher than usual, we’re still not worried about Hader at all. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:01 pm
    • Back from injured list
Treinen (chest) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Advice: The right-hander is ready for MLB action after a five-game rehab stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Treinen surrendered five runs in his first three appearances but finished with back-to-back scoreless outings. The 35-year-old has thrown just five frames in the big leagues since 2021 and could be eased back into high-leverage work. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:45 am
    • Dodgers activate Blake Treinen (lung) off IL
Dodgers activated RHP Blake Treinen off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Treinen is back as anticipated, which is good news. The bad news is the right-hander returns while Evan Phillips is placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Now that Treinen is back in the fold, he could see save chances in the coming weeks with Phillips unavailable. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:03 am
    • Will pitch Sunday
Jansen, who hasn't pitched the last six days, will be used in Sunday's game against the Twins, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox have a day off Monday and will prevent Jansen from the absence extending any further, so the closer is expected to pitch one way or another. He's pitched just once over the last nine days. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:37 am
    • Roughed up in first loss
Elder (1-1) was hit with the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings.

Advice: Elder went 1-2-3 through the first inning before surrendering a leadoff walk to Will Smith in the second, followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Max Muncy. The right-hander would then give up a home run in both the third and fourth innings as well, leading to a season-high seven runs being charged to him. Elder hadn't allowed a home run or more than two runs in either of his first two starts to open the campaign before getting beat up by the Dodgers on Saturday. However, he has now allowed seven or more hits in two of his first three outings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:56 am
