    • Héctor Neris allows run in ninth
Brought in with the Cubs down one in the top of the ninth, Héctor Neris gave up a run and two hits Friday against the Reds.

Advice: It’s the second straight outing in which Neris has allowed a run, and it proved to be a pretty big run after the Cubs scored once in the bottom of the ninth. Neris’s peripherals are still awful — he has a 16/15 K/BB in 20 innings — but so far, his only two blown saves haven’t cost the Cubs (the team won both games). He’ll probably need a costly blown save before the Cubs turn things over to Mark Leiter Jr. Rotoworld Today, 2:40 pm

    • Walks tightrope for 11th save
Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.

Advice: Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings. Diaz's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.91 with a 1.55 WHP and 22:15 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. He's converted 11 of 13 save chances overall. Rotowire.com Today, 2:40 pm
    • Set to miss 6-to-8 weeks
Fujinami, who was placed on the 15-day injured list May 13 with a right shoulder strain, is expected to be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Fujinami was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse after struggling in spring training. Those struggles continued across his nine minor-league games, as he registered a 14.09 ERA and 3.33 WHIP across 7.2 innings before landing on the IL. The good news for Fujinami is that he isn't expected to need surgery, but the 30-year-old right-hander will be out of action until mid-to-late July. Rotowire.com Today, 2:37 pm

    • Rewarded with another start
Manager Oli Marmol confirmed that Pallante will be the Cardinals' starting pitcher Tuesday against Houston,John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pallante fired six scoreless frames Wednesday against the Reds, a start impressive enough to warrant another turn in the rotation. He'll face an Astros lineup that's been significantly more productive than Cincinnati's, but Pallante should warrant some streaming appeal after his strong starting debut. Rotowire.com Today, 2:00 pm
    • Steven Matz (back) throws bullpen session Friday
Steven Matz (back) threw his second bullpen session on Friday without any issues.

Advice: It’s unclear how many times he’ll need to repeat the process before he’s cleared to face live hitters, but it’s nice to see him at least taking small steps in the right direction. The 33-year-old southpaw has been sidelined since mid-May after receiving an injection in his back. Rotoworld Today, 1:42 pm

    • Throwing off mound again
Matz (back) will throw another bullpen session Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Matz threw a light bullpen session Wednesday, which evidently went well. It's not clear whether he'll throw with more intensity Friday, but it would appear he's taking baby steps in the right direction. Andre Pallante is currently filling in for Matz as the Cardinals' fifth starter. Rotowire.com Today, 1:36 pm

    • Could re-enter rotation
Francis (forearm) is one of the options the Blue Jays are considering as the rotation replacement for Alek Manoah (elbow), Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Francis struck out five while yielding one unearned run over 3.2 innings with Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday in what was likely his final rehab appearance. The righty has been sidelined since late April with forearm tendinitis. Francis holds a 12.96 ERA in two starts and 2.84 ERA in three relief appearances with the Jays this season. Toronto is also considering a bullpen game for Manoah's next turn, which comes up early next week. Rotowire.com Today, 1:24 pm

    • DFA'd again
Kuhnel was designated for assignment Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kuhnel made his way to Toronto's organization after being DFA'd by the Astros in April, and he'll once again be put on waivers with Friday's move. He'll give way to Ryan Burr -- who was traded from the Phillies on Thursday -- on the 40-man roster. If Kuhnel clears waivers, he'll likely remain in the Blue Jays' farm system. • Athletics recall RHP Dany Jimenez
Athletics recalled RHP Dany Jimenez from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Jimenez saved 11 games for Oakland in 2022. He had a 3.68 ERA in 15 appearances with Oakland this year and a 2.00 ERA in eight appearances with Triple-A. The 30-year-old right-hander will reclaim a spot in the Athletics bullpen. Rotoworld Today, 12:51 pm
